Delta faucet/granite issue (also Lowes issue)
Comments (1)I purchased my Delta Victorian kitchen faucet (special order) thru Lowes. I had to purchase (thru Delta) some kind of extension piece to make it long enough to be installed on the granite. There was a note concerning the possibility of that on the install sheet. Delta knew exactly what I needed and sent it right out. Unless the model numbers match EXACTLY, you can end up getting lesser quality merchandise at the big box stores. Comments (5)I don't think the thyroid is an issue, but I would be concerned about the kidneys. With the BUN and creatinine as high as they are, and the USG as low as it is, I'd be very concerned with CRF, not so much hyperT4. We see decreased USG at 66% kidney function lost; nothing is seen in blood values until 75% of kidney function is lost. Sounds like your girl is somewhere between 66% and 75% kidney function lost. Some things to check: Ultrasound abdomen to take a look at kidney structure especially. Not uncommon to see small fibrotic kidneys. But if the kidneys were enlarged (as with renal lymphoma for example) you'd want to know that for treatment and/or prognosis. Ultrasound could also pick up bladder stones, kidney stones, and other causes of decreased USG if present. Urine culture and sensitivity: not likely to show an infection but wouldn't it be nice if a simple course of antibiotics cured her? Urine protein to creatinine ratio: excess protein in the urine speeds the process of chronic renal failure, but there are many strategies that decrease proteinuria. Blood pressure measurement: another consequence of kidney disease that causes more damage and speeds the process. Also there are medications to control blood pressure. That's what I would recommend for my patients in the same situation....See MoreMaster Bath Reno, Light Reno v. Total redo? Moving 3-5 years.
Comments (11)Interesting place. Never saw fireplace wall facing a bathroom-but I wouldn't cover the stone. You liked it enough -other people might like it enough. Also not enough info about the house as a whole to know whether shiplap would work, aesthetically. If you like it-it seems you have enough to do already, with new flooring, vanity, fixtures, etc. I'd choose a different color for the walls, even if going dark-but if you love yours, enjoy it, and repaint lighter neutral only when you're about to list. Or maybe a different vanity and floors will prompt you to choose another color. In short do big remodel only if you think you yourself will love it. Don't renovate for other people who might or might not like it in 5 years. If you always look at the slate and wonder why they chose it and how you'd do something different-then it's a good time to redo. Usually when things are harmonious, others will appreciate it as well. As for the spa feel-oh well..to me, it's overrated. If I want to be in a spa I'd go to a spa. I don't want my house to remind a hotel (unless it's Kit Kemp's one or something..but her rooms are great precisely because they don't look like hotel ones..a lot of thought and individialization went into each one)..and I don't particularly want my bathroom to be like a spa. Mileages might vary and all that, obviously. Would be cool to see the house, to get a better sense of things....See MoreMaster shower plumbing totally off center, please help!!
Comments (22)"Men, in general, don't care about symmetry or aesthetics for the most part. :(" Umm, No. Just No. So, first issue is "centered on what?" Is that the entire wall where the faucets are - or is that the space defined by the interior of the shower. I can't really tell from the photos, but it almost looks centered on the interior space of the shower. Yes, the centerline of the drain and the faucet/shower head need to be on the same line. There should be a drawing, and it should be initialed. It should show the location of the faucets, shower head, etc. and where the centerline is. If you have questions, you need to get answers before the tile goes up. If he mumbled and you didn't understand, then the two of you didn't communicate. My guess is that the new centerline is blocked by that stud. Fixing it would require cutting the stud and re-framing that. It would also require some mud / paint in the hallway. Doable, but the scope of the project just got larger. The new centerline may also be blocked by a floor joist (the drain). If that's the case, it may get much more complicated. All of that should have been decided once the old tub was out and you could see what you were working with. I'm not saying the contractor was not at fault - he should know how these things go. But I also get the sense that clear communication wasn't happening - and that's on both of you. Drawings need to happen - or be updated - once you have done your demo....See Moresocks
