Beveled subway tile question

Looking at backsplash ideas, one designer showed us a beveled subway tile which we really liked (although I never wanted subway tile before). What I can't understand, though, is if it is staggered (offset? don't know the term), how is it finished at the end if it's not a corner? See picture below. Won't it look odd to have a beveled piece cut in half? And they didn't have any kind of available end pieces. Haven't found an photos of it in a room where they're not showing it wall to wall--or should I say corner to corner? No free edges like ours would be.

Starting to think 4x4 travertine might be the only option. I had never liked it because of the holes in it--but never understood until yesterday that they caulk over the entire thing and fill in those holes so it's not so rough-looking.
