Comments (16)Maybe the reason my garden never looks all full of bloom is because I cut them : ) Actually I have had to learn how to add other things to provide style and color and not just have it be only about cutting. It seems a waste to have the little things like impatiens that don't cut using up room but it sure improves the look of the garden. Right now I am not cutting my trachelium, first year, although it is supposed to be a great cut. I want to see how it lives out and hope for some seeds as well. Same goes for liatris. On the other hand, my white swan echinacea are finally full size blooming machines. It has taken years to get here and I have plenty to cut and some to stay out on the plant. I have foliage plants, even planted the lacy asparagus fern to use with roses, but my favorite thing is just a handful of all the same flower so I rarely bring in foliage. I do love the look of Powis Castle artemesia with lavender or apricot roses, but it takes too much room outside. The one foliage I really use is nandina in the winter. It looks awesome on the mantle of my brick fireplace against my pewter plates. Was it Nan who said she needs to grow more to match her house? Me too. Comments (41)I got this hybrid tea last year on the Lowe's clearance rack, and I am very glad I did. The blooms are beautiful, large, and long lasting. The fragrance, while very pleasant, is not as strong as described on the Star website (www.kordes.us). I'd describe it as moderate. I agree with others that the foliage is very clean. It should be happy in both spray and no-spray gardens (although perhaps there might be strains that would prey more successfully on this plant in other areas). The plant didn't drop any leaves whatsoever during winter here (by contrast, most of my other roses lost all their leaves or at least some), which suggests that it would likely be hardy in colder climates. Comments (40)Thanks Diane. I missed her garden photos and posts. We should somehow to get them back. Beth, Carol and John are back now which is a good start. It's time for all of them to come back home. Home sweet home. I also missed Michael G, he was such an experienced rose gardener that had many helpful tips. I haven't seen Professor Henry's posts lately. Hope everything goes well with him. He should be around 90. I want to give him an online birthday party and wish him a long rosy life until 125! :-) I haven't had any pretty garden photos for a while now. My two gardens are super messy. I didn't have the time to pull weeds while working on rental after work, weeds were taller than roses. My neighbors thought I quit gardening. Lol NY garden has Canadian thorn weeds everywhere, I cleared most of them out in the front yard garden now, but still pulling them out from a side and backyard garden. I keep pulling them out, but they keep coming back. The PA garden has sticky vines in every inch.... and I got midge at both places......tonight's task is to trim down an evergreen shrub that is about 9' tall, 9' wide, it blocks too much sun from roses.....I have an outdoor gym. :-) Have to kill this vine that choking roses:...See More
