Tess of the d'Urbervilles

I have a flowerbed that is 3' deep and 15' wide. Hubby has requested a red rose. The DAustin site shows Tess of the d'Urbervilles grows well in partial shade. This bed gets morning sun until about noon. Do you think this will get too deep for the 3' space? If not how far apart should I plant them to have a hedge look. Our windows across the front of the house are low to about 20 from the ground but it is fine if the roses grow up to partially cover the windows.
