where can i find plain white subway tile?
Comments (4)I am using Daltile form Home Depot. The stores here in Houston vary widely in what they carry and their stock. I have just ordered the trim pieces that I need from Home Depot online in order to have enough for my project. The good thing is that if you order it online, have it delivered to the store, you can always return it to the store. But it's crazy to have to order 2 boxes when they only have 1 box on the shelf or don't carry it all at my nearest store, but carry it 10 miles away at another store. But it is cheaper than paying full price at the Daltile store. This post was edited by Anna_in_TX on Tue, Mar 18, 14 at 16:52...See MorePrice of granite...am I totally ignorant?
Comments (33)My knowledge is based on my sister's recent purchase of granite for her kitchen and 2 baths reno and she lives a bit south of Charlotte, NC. She chose her fabricator based on past experience with him for a Silestone countertop. They talked about price ranges in her budget. He told her what granite slab yards he like to work with but which yards she went to were her choice. To stay within her budget he told her not to go higher than Level 3 granite. Slab yards usually are not fabricators but sell directly to fabricators. The price of the job is based on the fabricator, not the slab yard. The slab yards usually price their granite in levels, or grades, and assign a letter or number. When my sister went to the slab yard, she told the salesperson not to show her anything above Level 3 so she wouldn't be tempted to go over budget. Once her choice of stone was made, the fabricator took over from there. He templated her counter areas, then she went to his workroom to help him layout the templates in order to capture the patterns of the granite she most liked. I recently called this fabricator because I am putting together a budget for a new home. He told me that his cheapest price is $50 per sq foot which gives a choice of about 20 granites. The next level is $60/sq foot, then on up to $65 and $70. He gave the example of Red Dragon granite being $70 sq/ft. This price includes measuring, templates, cutting, complete installation and sealing (as needed)....See MoreI found beautiful white subway tiles that are very inexpensive
Comments (19)Thanks, linelle! I have some lippage and some unevenness of line but it's really just the nature of the beast. I tried to find a close up photo where you can see clearly. Look at the bottom row to the left. I just remembered something that maybe is relevant - My UCL (leds) have dimmers and I have them at about half intensity so maybe it's not causing shadows which is why it's less obvious. I think your tile is beautiful and that it's just a matter of tweaking your lighting to minimize the shadows. What you don't see can't bother you!...See More2 tile install quotes, miles apart; what am I missing?
Comments (35)"An honest licensed contractor who is worker's compensation exempt can comply with the law by hiring his help through a temp agency." I guess that's true, but I can honestly say that I have never ever heard of anyone doing this. Probably because they would have to pay the agency fees above the hourly wage that the worker gets and the whole reason people are claiming they are exempt when they aren't is because they are trying to avoid spending money. I don't think complying with the law is their main objective. Besides, the last place I'd look for experienced construction workers is a temp agency. "I can't believe the state only makes this requirement [liability insureance] of LLC's." I'm surprised, too, because California loves to regulate the heck out of everything. However, for every law there's a dozen ways to skirt it. Cali has workers comp laws and licensing laws, but people still find a way around them. The reason that there are so many unlicensed contractors out there is because there is a market for them. They wouldn't be in business if people weren't hiring them....See MoreErrant_gw
