Ginger grab bar in shower and use as vertical slider for shower head?

I've also posted this in the bath forum. We're remodeling our master bath and I'm looking to put polished nickel grab bars in our shower. Is there anyone who has used them and can give me some feedback as to how they hold up? I'm thinking of getting the Columnar that have a 1 1/4" diameter.

Also, if anyone has retrofitted one of these to use as a vertical slide bar for their handheld shower, I'd be interested to hear about your experience as well. I'm considering using the Jaclo adjustable sliding shower mount with the Ginger grab bar. The mounts work with 1 1/4" diameter bars.

We're looking to install Hansgrohe polished nickel shower heads and trim. Their PN is different from the Ginger and Jaclo it seems, but they don't make grab bars, so I don't see a way around mixing the polished nickel finishes. Hopefully it won't be too noticeable. Do you think a regular Hansgrohe slider would be sturdy enough to use as a grab bar when getting in and out of the shower?

Just so you know exactly what I have...The two rings that trim out where the grab bars attach to the wall each have circlular section that are a slightly warmer tone, almost satin nickel-ish compared to the rest of the chrome grab bar. It would probably normally bother me a lot, but after a total gut renovation on this old houseI've had to let go of perfection to save my sanity. Especially on things that I might only see for a moment each day when I turn the shower water on and off. Also, at the time I was shopping for grab bars, these deltas were the style, function and best price point for us. I'd buy them again. I might request replacement trim pieces after I get a kitchen counter, but right now they're way down on the renovation's prioritized to-do list.

Where to position a vertical shower/tub grab bar

Place a vertical grab bar on the wall where you enter/exit the shower. You hold the bar to steady yourself as you step over the threshold. For more thorough protection, also install a horizontal bar so it's at your side when you face the shower head, at 33-36 inches height from the floor of the shower. When we installed grab bars from my elderly father-in-law we contacted the local Council for Aging and they referred us to a professional who came to the house and installed the bars. The relatively low cost was well worth the peace of mind we had knowing that the bars were properly located and anchored to studs.

Here are two commercial shower products that incorporate a grab bar for the hand shower: Delta Commercial Pressure Balanced Shower System Moen M-Dura 2.5 GPM Shower System You can also choose your own components from this Delta Multichoice spec sheet and, I'm sure, have build.com assemble the components you select. Don't forget any required valves and diverters!

Thanks for all the input everyone! So I think I made some decisions. I bought a handheld showerhead from Hammerhead showers. They are all metal, under $100, look nice and get good reviews. I’ll just have the showers plumbed with a regular showerhead pipe and then install the hand held showerhead as the main/only shower head. For my son’s bathroom, I bought this suction cup handheld showerhead holder that we can place lower down for him. It was $15 on Amazon. I just need to find a tub spout and shower diverter now. When we remodel, the horizontal bar won’t be there any more.
