Thanks for sharing my excitement. It's amazing how gardeners go gaga over a good deal. Yes, they are stained a light green, a nice "blending" color. Dani, I love your post on the different colors every year. I had already thought that maybe I will paint them each different colors (like my ladders) but wonder if that will be too crazy looking. I probably will after the first two years when they need a refresher. Iris9 - yup, the same one from Lowe's. I like your idea of clematis, and at least one will have a clematis winding through it. I'm thinking half will be flowers, half veggies - scarlet runner beans, sweet peas, cucumbers, etc. The fun is that I get to change it every year. The Black-eyed susans are doing great this year and are HUGE! It's all the rain that they love. And yes I will post photos :-) Been too busy this summer to post much, but winter's coming, when I have more time to garden daydream.

RoundUp (glyphosate, but RoundUp actually does include diquat dibromide as well for a speedier response as glyphosate is not a fast herbicide) deactivates upon soil contact and then decays via bacterial action (bacteria consider it dinner) over some months. I can't find any indication that it has any other rapid decay mechanism (and, in fact, most sources indicate that it's fairly stable in sunlight and very stable in water. Which makes sense; that's why the bottle is white and the listed dilutant is water. Personally, I'd rinse off the rocks (and the hose) with the hose a bit before interacting overmuch with them and I'd probably be hesitant to lick the rocks before a good rainfall. As far as immediate toxicity goes, there's little to no concern. Toxicity is >5,000 mg/kg in rats, which is pretty much going to be the same in humans. You won't be exposed to that much, and that makes it less toxic than table salt. And again, I'll encourage you to research the cancer links on your own. Personally, I consider the evidence fairly weak. Inevitably, somebody out there will come back with, "but I know somebody..." That's too bad...but "anecdote" does not equal "datum."

give it enough water, spritz the leaves several times a day. If the leaves look like they would perk up if they were hydrated, lay the whole thing in a bath tub filled with water for several hours or even a whole day. I would like to also unpot and look at the roots. If they are brown and mushy, bare root it, cut off all dead roots and then do the soaking. If there are no or very little good roots, I would keep the stem in water till enough roots develop.

An architectural salvage place in my neck of the woods sells salvaged oak planks for around $2.50/sf. But like the others have said, it's got to be removed carefully to preserve the tongues and grooves so it can be put back together. And then de-nailed. Either remove it yourself, or offer it to someone for $1/sf if they remove. That's the best way to preserve it for re-use, which I would applaud you for. If you don't want to do either of those, then make it free for pickup in your garage. The taker will have to do a lot of culling and de-nailing to make it useful. Or they may do something other than put it on the floor. But at least you'll keep it out of the landfill.
