Here's the Guru's opinion : Electrolux (I'm assuming you're talking about the Electrolux, not the Electrolux Icon) - I've got an Electrolux range. I love the wave touch controls (even though one little part of the display has gone out - I'll let you know what it takes to fix it). The oven is great at holding temperature to close to what it's set at, the meat probe works great, the lighting is some of the best on the market, the smooth glide racks can't be matched by any other brands (though, make sure you take them out before you self clean!), and I personally like the blue interior. Miele - Miele puts out a solid product. I just don't think I could spend the money on one, or feel right convincing someone else to do the same. Thermador - Thermador came out with the first wall oven (1947) and has been improving on them ever since. Unless you're sold aesthetically on the appearance, I'd save a little money and go with a Bosch wall oven. It's got a quick preheat time (7 minutes) and a quick self clean cycle (2 hours). It holds temperature very well. Frigidaire - This is a good oven and at a great price. Now, the problem you'll run into is they're updating the line and coming out with a brand new line up on their wall ovens. Availability may become an issue unless you can wait a couple of months for the new ones. The Frigidaire doesn't hold quite as tight of a temperature as the previous ovens, but it is loaded with the features most high end ovens have. I can answer the BS oven door question. My 36" BS RCS was installed two days ago (haven't used it yet, hopefully this weekend). During the burn off of the oven (high temp is 450 F for an hour) I checked how hot the oven door got, as that has been a big issue noted on these boards. On my range, the SS part of the oven door did not get hot, just a bit warm. The glass on the oven door got hotter but not that hot. What did get quite hot were the sides/edges of the oven door. I could touch the side but not for long. Definitely quite hot. Not instant burn/scald though. There are vents (or look like vents) right there so it makes sense that those areas heat up a lot. Your kids would have to press their hands up against the 2" side of the door for several seconds for it to affect them negatively. More likely a kid running around will touch the front of the door and that is not a problem, on my range at least.

In terms of function, other than the bending (potentially also there with a double wall oven), and the size (depending on which range and/or wall ovens you choose), the real issue is that ovens are generally afterthoughts on ranges. People talk about the cooktop: Number, power and arrangement of burners, grating type, open or closed, etc. The oven is the oven you get with the cooktop you want. There's actually more variation in ovens than there are in cooktops within a particular category. If you find a range that has an oven you like, fabulous! If you don't, however, you can either buy separate cooktop and oven, and put the oven underneath in the European style, or have a separate cooktop and wall oven(s). In general, a free standing range gives you the most function for the least price. If your budget is tight, it's a place you can save. You not only save on the price of the freestanding range vs. separates, but also on the cabinetry/countertop (that's not so true with a slide-in or drop-in). Ranges also come in nominal sizes, so if you don't make the space too specific you can swap one out fairly easily. Or you can spend the extra dollars and have a close fit with a counter that comes right up to the sides and not worry about the future. Both wall ovens and cooktops require such different openings that replacements without some carpentry and patching can be challenging.

Not sure if I'm too late to the party here or if you are still deciding. When we renovated our house 12 years agoe we went with a 36" bluestar range with gas oven and a GE Monogram 30" electric wall oven with GE Advantium Microwave/speed cook/convection above it. I've been super happy with the decision. I cook all the time on the range top and mostly use the wall oven however love having the big gas oven, which fits 2 turkeys for Thanksgiving and roasts them beautifully. Unfortunately our GE Monogram just went kaput so I'm now shopping for a new 30" electric wall oven. Will most likely go with the GE Monogram again but wish I could find one that has knobs and looks a bit less slick. If you've already picked would love to know what you went with and if you are happy with the choices.
