What do you think of blue/grey walls?
Comments (13)Picking out the least used color, makes the quiter item "pop" against a background that is the same. I use this idea all the time, especially when matting a picture or hanging one I want to highlight It's fun to change the colors... using a computer. To do this with your picture, first, set your picture as the "desktop background". Then, go to "Display", pick center for your picture, and then pick a background color. Sort of "framing" your desktop picture. Try these: use the color of the pillow, then the main color on the chintz, then a complement of the main color, you get the idea. Does this make sense?...See MoreWhat do you think of this Dining Room?
Comments (36)Becky-I'm sure my terminology is off saying coastal. Our home is a shingle style exterior, lots of traditional finishes and moldings but maintains a livable, casual feel and very open and airy with lots of windows bringing the outside in all around. I'm not sure what the term is, but that's what I mean more or less by coastal. Thank you My3dogs. I've read that LONG post and every single response twice. I appreciate the push to again look local and consider a custom table. I reconnected with a local woodworker and although it is priced more than the RH table, I think I can make it work in our budget. They use your choice of wood (oak, alder, doug fir) and your choice of stain or natural finish, etc. They do beautiful work, so I think I will go this direction. Not sure what I'll do for my sideboard/hutch yet, but that piece can come later if necessary. Here's a couple completed tables the local woodworker has completed:...See MoreWhich warm gray exterior color do you think looks best? (pics)
Comments (17)Thank you to everyone for your input! It was a tough decision, but BM Rockport Gray won out in the end and we're very happy with it. Any of these colors would've looked great (no "perfect" color, in my opinion) and it was helpful to think about the overall look we wanted. This website is so useful to me, so just wanted to pay it forward with some pointers that may help anyone considering painting their exterior these colors: 1. Rockport Gray is a really pretty "warm" gray. In direct sunlight it looks almost beige-khaki, and in the shade or indirect light is where you see more gray. 2. RG does not clash with our reddish-brown roof! 3. I was surprised how much lighter the color came out to be. We might have been ok going a little darker, but in any case I'm still happy with it. Our original exterior color was so light, so I think that testing RG on top of it made RG seem much darker than it turned out to be. 4. It was really helpful to narrow down all 20 of our "warm gray/ greige" paints to just 3 or 4 samples. The paint chips are great suggestions to point you in the right direction, but after a while they start to look the same and you really don't know until you test it directly where it's going! 5. Our house is east-facing and the roof is multi-gabled, so we needed a color that would work with all sorts of (mostly direct) sunlight angles & roof appearances. We tested various paints in many spots and noticed right away with all paint colors that there's no one "true" shade that came through. Every test area looked different. Another reason why I think we had no "perfect" color! 6. Our trim color is Benjamin Moore White Dove. We wanted something softer/creamier but I think BM Simply White would've looked crisp and really nice as well with Rockport Gray. 7. We're also painting our doors a soft black! One of the reasons we went with RG is because we thought it was the best color to go with black doors, so it was helpful to think about the overall look (siding with trim with doors). Best of luck to you all for your paint decisions! Note: Left side hasn't gotten its 2nd coat yet, but the side straight ahead with window is final....See MoreWhat grey do you think this could be or close matches?
Comments (13)Grey (like SW Urbane Bronze) would look beautiful with those countertops and would blend well with your floors. If you go with a green, look at one with grey undertones like SW evergreen fog. I agree that the current cabinets need to be stripped and sanded. You can do this yourself if you have the time to clean/strip, sand, and spray with tinted primer, paint, and poly. It is time consuming to do it but it will save you thousands and give you a near factory finish. You can always get BM paint tinted to a SW color, if desired....See Morejoaniepoanie
