Do you think Warm or Cool when decorating?
Comments (18)I don't go about decor with warm or cool in mind, more with the space in mind and the related spaces. I lean towards warm, with a deep love of gold, burgundy, copper, etc, but will also toss in a cool colored room if it flows. I am currently thinking about how to do this victorian...and I'll probably do the majority of it in pretty warm colors taking a clue from the original draperies that exist (gold, green and copper) and to compliment the wood (i don't love wood with cool colors). But I think up in the servents quarters I'm going to go ahead and embrace my cool side. The rooms are darker than the rest of the house, and being former attic overlooking gardens and the bay, I think they call for softer cool tones in silvery gray and soft yellows maybe even a lovely soft blue or silvery green (no hospital green or peach LOL YUCK...this is because we were patients verses staff Vamp...I betcha no patient loves hospital green LOL) I just have to make this flow from the gold walls of the hall...it will be a fun challenge, and I'm bringing in a pro so I don't screw it up LOL...See MoreWhich exterior paint scheme do you like best?
Comments (17)Anymac -- with all due respect, I like painted brick homes and I also like the whitewash/antiqued look (mainly on older homes that need a facelift). Your home appears relatively new (and beautiful) and the brick seems pristine. If the Trim/Pillars are bothering you -- why change 95% of the house? Just saying. I'd keep the brick natural (it shows off the keystones over each window) and I would just mute the brightness of the trim if that is what is bothering you. Just an alternative thought for you to consider. I agree with this. If you paint the brick( a huge mistake IMO) there is no going back .Plus you have lost countless $$ in re sale value....See MoreWhich combo do you think works best if any?
Comments (17)ok.. lazygardens.. you figured me out.. LOL.. With all the chaos in my life perhaps I am ultimately seeking that California Zen vibe.. maybe the DR is just not the right place. And the rest of my house has the earthy tones NE feel (considering I live in NE not that far off I suppose). I am going to find another home for the tray- put the other candles back in their previous location and look for other options. I would like to keep the runner for a variety of reasons so will start over from there!! Thanks for all suggestions.. @ roarah- the color is BM mayflower red. I had it my last two homes and when we moved into this one I had to have it. It is really warm- the rug below the dining table basically was the inspiration for all the colors in my home.. They are what I am most comfortable with.....See More'Gallery' in our stairwell--what do you think of this look?PICS
Comments (13)I agree, I think the leaves would look darling in a vertical grouping -- perhaps in a bathroom, or kitchen maybe -- and yes with the darker stripes downward, as if they are the ground. I think "eclectic" is neat but it can be a bit hard to pull off gracefully. I actually hired a decorator once and she came out and started telling me that my antiques were not all from the same period. So what? The average person wouldn't even know that, much less care. And if their opinions are THAT critical, surely they can find their way back to the front door. That said, I think it's lovely that you're decorating with the tings you love. Ultimately it's YOU who needs to be pleased with your own home -- and you do have a lovely home. If the wall makes you feel good when you look at it, then you've reached your goal. If it makes your guests feel good, that's a bonus. Stairwells are a bear to decorate, I think. I wish they would do a few HGTV shows on stairwells and teensy weensy entry halls/foyers. One of these days we should have a big ol' thread on stairwells and teensy landings. My front door comes in at my landing and I don't have pretty railings like you do. I just have a half wall with a cap of wood on it. What does one do with that? I lack the skills or I'd whip out a saw and rectify that problem. Good luck with getting the arrangement just the way you want it, and please post pictures when you're done....See Moresc425
