If you can over-winter your eggplants (aubergines) DO IT :)

Last winter I started 6 heirloom Astrakom eggplants from seed and 3 heirloom-mystery eggplants (They did not match the coloration, size or shape of the variety we ordered or the description on the seed packet they came in but they were seriously delicious at any rate). They, most particularly the Astrakom, produced like gangbusters from July until the end of November but it seems that we haven't seen nothin' yet!

With our exceptionally mild winter this year, all of them have survived ...and thrived. They are blooming like mad and each of the Astrakom plants has upwards of 15 fruits on the plant that are developing apace. This is double the number each plant had at peak season last summer. The mystery eggplants are producing better than they did in their first season as well -- we got a ratio of one mystery: 7 Astrakom last summer. This spring, we are up to 2:7.

In their second season, they seem to be really hitting super-peak stride!
