Removing Okna Sliding Patio Door

I had a 6" Okna slider installed a few years ago and now I've run into the problem of needing/wanting new furniture in the basement where the door is. However, turns out the door doesn't quite open far enough to even get my old furniture out. Seems like I can remove the stoppers that are in the upper and lower track, but the handle outside will hit the fixed door and I may not gain enough clearance. Is there a way to remove the sliding portion of the door? Preferably without ruining the vinyl of course.

Its pretty straightforward and very much similar to removing most screen doors. In summary, remove the weather stripping block between the panels, remove the screw plugs covering the wheel adjusters, lower the wheels all the way down, lift the door up and swing the bottom section out (have a place set up ready to lean the door as well as a piece of cardboard on the ground to prevent scratching the floor or door bottom) and you are good to go.

If you want the full 6' of opening, pull the end cover that is adjacent to the fixed panel, remove the screws attaching the fixed panel to the frame, and lift out that panel as well.

Install is the reverse of removal.

Conceptually, WoW nailed it. Not rocket science at all if you are comfortable working with hand tools and a screw gun. The only thing that I'd add is that the full removal of both of those panels can be a bit of a struggle at times. The door is designed without a lot of play in it (a good thing), which means that the panels fit tight and can be tight to remove after installation. There are also a few other hidden blocks and things that will impede removal that can really be a pain in the rear. There is a screwed in weatherstripping block on above the moving panel that is difficult to access in particular. You will also need to remove the screen which necessitates adjusting the rollers down on that, removing threshold inserts, etc... It's a few hours worth of work. If pulling the bumpers and removing the handle will get you the clearance that you need, it would definitely save time.

most high quality vinyl brands will actully out shine a wood patio door. however, it needs to be a high quality vinyl, if its not, it will warp and leak air like its going out of style. okna make a great patio door as does sunrise and soft lite. stay away from any vinyl products from home depot or lowes.

That stop at the top of the door frame is screwed in about every 8". The installer might have accidently nailed the top trim into the stop too. You can try lowering the door and lifting it out, but the spring loaded wheels might make it difficult if working alone.I'm not even sure you can do that with an Anderson. Roll the door over a credit card to "derail" it If you destroy that stop it is a cheap part you can get at your local supplier.

Thats a good price for the Okna patio door, its as solid as a rock. You will enjoy that door for decades. The OP pricing was ridiculously low even for 6 years ago. Prices have gone up a lot since 5-6 years ago, particularly this year with all the shortages on materials and other supply chain issues. You are getting good pricing. stay away from home depot or lowes, not sure you would like the quality. I am not a fan of andersen or pella.

I forgot, I did get a quote on the Andersen 200 Slider---over $1000 more than anything else. Led me to rule it out, although could probably find a lower price. Thank you, Gracie!

Harumph!! I mentioned the weatherstripping block senior. Hopefully he has the older screen where he doesn't need to pull the weatherstripping leg on the screen. What a PITB that thing is.

I figured that you were talking about the interlock (which has weatherstripping and also need to be pulled off btw) and just using incorrect terminology! lol
