appliance advice for imminent reno please
Comments (5)thanks fori and haus proud .... right now the space allocation wont allow for an 18 inch dw(bosch would have prob been my choice if it had). it is possible that the layout will change and i would reconsider the dishdrawer decision..my concern for the disposer was that if i had to rinse off items before placing them in the dishdrawer it would be running counter to my desire to cut down on water use by using a small dishwasher on a regular basis....if the fp does a decent job of cleaning and i can simply clean the filter as needed then that may be fine...noise is not the big issue for me since the kitchen is not the eating adn entertaining area and i would be washing overnight and off peak only.... thanks weissman ....re the decison to go for the integrated fridge...true it is a style decision but the blomberg is extremely comparable price wise adn i have a line on a very good deal onthe liebherr if i do decide to ante up for it... the 24 inch non integrated choice would prob be the fagor which seems like a very nice fridge but not cheap either... i havent been too impressed with the lg or (i think) ge that are available locally... i think i can also get summit here in toronto as well but again not cheap..... again still wondering if anyone can comment on their experiences with downdraft ranges in a small kitchen thnaks all...See MoreBest advice on preparing/living through kitchen reno
Comments (27)I agree about the Burton induction burner. I wish we got ours sooner. I would also recommend a big supply of aluminum foil for using in a countertop convection or toaster oven. Doing dishes is a major pain in the bathroom, so minimize the pots you use. I also used paper plates for cutting boards (non-meat or dairy) and then served dinner on the same plates. You will become a master of avoiding making dirty dishes. I also recommend restaurant.com, groupon, and all the half price deals that our radio station endorses. We ate out quite a bit more than usual, and those saved us a ton. Get to know the special nights of the week that have discounts at local restaurants (i.e. kids eat free, half price apps, etc...). You say you will cook more than the actual because the reno steals more of your time than you think. I'd get sent out to get parts, have to research topics on the computer and basically spend a lot of time searching for things that resisted being found. It would be 7:30 and I'd realize I had not thought about what to make for dinner. It happens and you just have to run with it. I sure wish it had bbq weather for some of our reno.... that would have made a big difference. Nothing like spending Xmas huddled in the bsmt with heat barely working, the bathroom upstairs (and cold) and the plumber away on vacation! Not having a working kitchen this time of year is a much smarter plan ;)...See MoreNeed advice on kitchen reno
Comments (5)I would definitely consider a light taupe or dark sand color, pulling from the lighter range of the countertop colors. I'd go to a Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore store and ask if you could borrow their "deck" of paint colors to take home and hold up against the countertop. With Sherwin Williams, once you are down to 4-5 colors, you can order 8.5x11 sheets of each color to help you finalize choices. Hang them on the cabinets and watch them at different points in the day because the colors will look different as the natural light in the room changes....See MoreAdvice on medium size kitchen layout for big reno
