Soapberry trees S/A Chinaberries
Comments (27)Isn't this forum THE BEST??? I always learn something new. I've learned so much on this post about Soapberry trees. I'm glad that Cat has Id some. Wish I could have been watching Randy climb up his 8 ft. ladder, checking for "Soapberry hairstreak eggs". Sorry, that you did not find any. The Soapberry hairstreaks are usually seen May to July. So, keep an eye out for them. I am thrilled to see your interest in native milkweed. Once you get an eye for it, you will be able to easily spot it in the ditches and pastures while driving down the highway. There are about 110 species of milkweed in North America. I know of at least 8 different species in my county. You will also find that our present Governor promotes mowing from roadside to fenceline, and will experience the horrors of a once flourishing colony of milkweed with alot of activity being "mowed to the ground"! There is quite an interesting and unique "food chain" of insects attracted to the milkweed habitat. You will be aware of alot more activity having your milkweed patch closer to your house. They say that out of around 200 eggs that aMonarch will lay, usually only about 1-2 will survive to adulthood out in the wild. Survival of the fittest....See Morewanted: sa swap
Comments (150)We had a great swap! It was wonderful seeing everyone again and meeting the new people. We appreciate those who made the drive from out of town and the far side of town. Mrs. Brown Thumb arrived well composed and with with all her plants ... :-) The weather was PERFECT! There were about 20 people there, however we really missed a couple of you who didn't make it :-( ... maybe next time, okay? We'll be doing this again, and catching up with everybody's news and views plantwise, in October. There will be some pictures posted on the Gallery later. Thanks to everyone for your presence and all the beautiful plants. With a full heart and a car load of both soft and stickery things there is much gratefulness all around from all of us....See MoreWhat's in a name?: searching for heat tolerant roses in SA
Comments (26)Straw, I am not handicapped; I am recovering from surgery & have post Lyme. That's the main reason I am not in Africa now. I have experience in Africa, knowledge of sub-Saharan African cultures and work here as much as I can with refugees from Congo. The orphanages in Botswana & SA house children not only from their own countries, but children who have fled from Congo & other countries where war, strife, food insecurity, political corruption and many other dangers are an everyday occurances. Africa is where my heart and my call are. I am a trained psychotherapist and have experience in medical social work. By the time I am medically able to return to Africa, I will have completed my MDiv and will be ordained by PCUSA. This combination enables me to serve in both secular and faith-based institutions. Every day, children suffer in many countries, including our own. Your heart has called you to help children in Vietnam. My roommate will be going back to Congo. My home church just returned from building an orphanage in Haiti. There is room for all to serve, many many many areas of need....See MoreOT: Cat Litter Box Location
Comments (67)You guys are wonderful, thank you so very much for all the wisdom and advice! DH would kill me if I brought home two kittens. We do have a 1 year old German Shepherd, and I think the best is to wait and see how the two get along together before adding to the mix. We're picking the kitten up today; I will post pictures and an update later. I'm holding off on buying the 'furniture' litter box but would love to see pictures of any of your 'hidden' set-ups. We usually keep the basement door closed, and are not down there daily, but that might be the best option. Anglophilia - it sounded like your cabinet combined the food and litter box? Mizlizzie - would you be willing to post a picture? Everyone - thank you again! I have been reading and re-reading this post....See MoreHolly- Kay
