Does this gollum jade look healthy?
Comments (2)I think your Gollum looks good! Some varieties do have slightly yellow leaves. I had one a long time ago and loved it! If you want the leaves to be darker green...you can always add 1/4 to 1/2 strength of fertilizer once the weather warms up... should green it up a little. I'm not sure what zone you live in? They love full sun also...but if they're not used to direct sun...slowly acclimate it so you don't sunburn the leaves. Wrinkly leaves does sometimes indicate lack of moisture? Can you check the roots to see if its very dry or stick a thin chopstick in the soil to check for moisture. If your soil is very dry, Water it thoroughly...should get rid of those wrinkles and plump them up in a few minutes or hours....See More2 new Jades....Hummels Sunset and Gollum maybe??
Comments (3)Now that I've refreshed the page, I am also able to confirm your 'Gollum'! Technically, your plant has leaves with both 'Gollum' and 'Skinny Finger' characteristics. Most of my plants have mixed leaf-types, as well, but I simply call them by the predominant leaf-shape. So 'Gollum' it is (or near enough!) Again, great find! Josh...See MoreLegolas gollum jade
Comments (20)Violet Blackwould no problem and beautiful plant. 'Legolas' is a rare vareigeated form of this plant. Yes variegated is areas of usually white or yellow tissue, common in a lot of ornamentally cultivated plants. Those areas of the plant lack chlorophyll....the "food" making part of the plant.....so such plants can be a bit weaker or slower growing than their normal green relatives. Variegation can take many forms.......often it is on the leaf edge or leaf center which is usually relatively more stable in growth pattern, or it can be more random like the 'Legolas' above. All variegated can sport fully "albino" branches (which will not survive on their own" or reversions to all green (which usually have to be removed because they will overtake the whole plant). Now that you know you will notice variegates everywhere LOL. Now to get back on subject I would post a pic of my little 'Legolas'....but I sunburned it a bit when I put it out two weeks ago. Comments (3)Putting some mixed medium underneath will not help, it could make it worse since that part will dry up faster, making it look like it is time to water. Either repot into well mixed medium or leave it - as I said, I can't see the soil it is in. If it needs improvement, you shouldn't be afraid. It is much better to improve conditions (if they need to) than leaving plant in not-so-good conditions - be it soil or light or whatever. Keeping plant excessively dry is not going to help either: succulents need to be watered thoroughly when mix is almost completely dry. Water should drain freely from the bottom of the container. You can help yourself by using a bamboo skewer or chopstick: insert deep into mix (at least 3/4 deep). Leave for few minutes. Take it out - if dry and clean = time to water. If stick feels dam/cold and may have some particles sticking to it, there is still plenty of moisture. Succulents usually recover much better from underwatering than overwatering - but there is no point of stressing them excessively if at all possible. Moving plant into sun for 30 min/day is not going to help either: acclimatizing it slowly to hours a day is the way to go. Best way is to start setting plant in early morning sun for a while with dappled shade for rest of the day. Move it to more sunlight every few days. I take all succulents outside in Spring, and they stay in full sun, whole day. Our Summer temps are lower than San Diego, but it gets warm in Summer. Jades are South African plants and look best if grown in proper light....See Moreoks2n2_Siberia1
