Propagating cuttings from old hydrangea

Lindsay E

Hey everyone,

My mother has a 36 year old hydrangea plant in her back yard and I am going to take some cuttings from it this summer and try and propagate some new plants for my garden.

I've read pretty extensively on making and rooting the cuttings.

My questions are: after the cuttings are rooted, how many cuttings should I put in a 4" pot? I don't want to overcrowd, but would still like a nice full plant.

At what point do I transplant to a bigger pot? Say a 1 gallon?

With it being such an old plant, would I be violating any patents by doing this?

Thank you in advance!!
