Needing a fast growing shade tree - Toowoomba Queensland

Robyn Harrison

Hi all. I've just purchased a rural block on the outskirts of Toowoomba (temperate climate) and need some fast growing shade trees for the stock. The soil is "black soil" which is a type of clay (sticky when wet, crumbly when dry). Rainfall is good most years, and I can water from the dam, so it doesn't have to be drought tolerant. One part of the property can get boggy in the wet season. We do suffer frosts in winter but only a handful each year. I have a couple of Grevillia Robusta that seem to be doing well, and a Forest Red Gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis?) that is thriving. But I need some very fast growing shade, so am looking for some opinions! Thanks! Robyn
