Beware Mac Users

It's all over the news today a ransomware virus is now infesting Mac computers and will cost you $400.00 or 1 bit coin to get it unlocked. Should be on your homepage of browser or news on you computer, I don't run a Mac so , only going on the news broadcast.

My limited reading on the subject is that a particular version of a BitTorrent client called "Transmission" was somehow released with malware attached to it that specifically targeted computers running OS X. What is BitTorrent? Well, very simply, is a file sharing protocol or in other words allows the transfer of a file on one computer to another computer via the Internet. In most cases BitTorrent is used to transfer very large files, such as software, games, and movies but in many cases those files contain pirated software, games, or movies.

What's the mean for the average Mac user who isn't looking to download pirated movies? There is nothing to worry about because you wouldn't have downloaded the infected software. There's probably a lesson in there somewhere about not doing bad things...just saying...

While we are talking about the Seattle Japanese Garden, a friend of mine has gotten into photography and he has a few pictures up on his website. Hi Kuduz9, No I did not have a couple of beers, but I probably should have LOL. I'm a friend of bill & bob. I copy and paste a lot to the forum. My typing is so bad not to mention my command over the English language. I struggle with spelling and basic sentence structure. Getting thoughts from keyboard to forum has always been difficult for me. I continue to work at it and have improved.

drag and drop is easiest...... or click "file" then "save as" which will allow you to re-name it as well as name where you want it to go. Either way, you're not going to hurt anything. Go for it.

OK, I am not computer savvy, but when my PC wouldn't let me open my tray, I resorted to getting out the manual. The instructions were: Take a paper clip, straighten it out and poke it in the little hole next to the tray opening. Bingo...out popped the tray. I just love high-tech. I hope you can get your dilemma figured out.

What I found "all over the news" was that the possible problem has very limited scope (a hijacked installer for a bit torrent client as Mike described) that has already been mitigated. The problem was minor and has been eliminated.

Everyone needs to be sure to check out and understand any message spread to avoid unwarranted and misleading fear mongering.
