Painting clouds on the ceiling
Comments (32)You can add a glaze coat to your paint to extend the drying time. (BennyMoore has a good water based one) Much easier to have a bit of transparency in your colors for blending. A small rack of tints will help with color adjusting. You will need many more variations in your color palate to create the sky you are wanting. It looks much easier than one thinks. Big flat blending brushes, though rather expensive, make it much easier to cover large areas. It will be a work-out. A project like that, even though it is such a small scale, should be worked out and sampled on ground level first so when translating above your head it is mapped out and familiar. Comments (9)I think all ceilings should be painted if they are plaster or drywall. They will stay cleaner that way, especially in the kitchen. Painting ceiling will make it look more "finished" than leaving them bare. Often times with new construction, ceilings and closets were not painted to "save money". My parents home (formerly the grandparent's home) did not have the closets or linen closets painted when it was built - in 1921. By the time they got around to painting them in the '90s, the bare plaster had grabbed so much city soot that it was difficult to get paint to take well. I would at least put down a coat of primer on your ceilings. It will be worth it down the road to not have to worry about cooking grease, cig smoke, dirt and soot soaking into the unpainted ceiling making it impossible to wash too. If your ceiling has those older acoustical tiles you could paint them, but realize that you would lose the acoustical value that they provide. Tin ceilings and other decorative ceiling styles can be painted, and it is just a personal preferance if you like them painted or not. Whether you paint your ceiling white, off-white, a percentage of the wall color, or even a completely different color depends on the room. Posting pictures would help if you are looking for advice on what color you should go with....See MoreWood ceiling -stay or go
Comments (10)Ditto Zinnser Primer and white ceiling paint. I like your teapot. Sometimes you display what has meaning for you or just what you have at that point in your life. I used to keep a huge chunk of pink MN quartz in my china cabinet display right next to the Waterford. Also stuff people gave me as gifts. Not because I really liked the stuff, but because I loved the people who gave it to me. It's funny now, my adult children do not want the china or crystal but they all want that hunk of rose quartz....See MoreNeed advice on painting wood ceiling after removing popcorn
Comments (5)Thank you for your replies. I found a drywall guy that’s going to work with me to keep the costs down. I’m going to scrape all the popcorn off, and I’m going to help him install it (that way I get to learn as I go too) and then he will tape it, put some mud on it, and sand it. Then I’ll paint it. ...and yes I definitely agree with your ‘do it once and do it right‘ comment. It’s a small home and one room has already been done so it shouldn’t be too tough. thanks again...See MoreUser
