pH readings fluctuating wildly

I'm using a handheld pH pen that is properly calibrated and has been stored in electrode storage solution. It shows a rock solid pH value for anything except my reservoir water. It starts at 6.76, then goes all the way down to 6.10, then starts to go back up again. I left it in there for minutes and it didn't appear to stabilize at all. I'm wondering if the meter is sending a current that's causing redox reactions, causing a change in pH, or if maybe it has something to do with a buffer system or the amount of dissolved oxygen. I guess my main question is, how can I accurately test the pH of my res? Thanks!
