I assume the 'deck guys' worked for the contractor and were not the ones that installed the Duradeck? Once they cut into the Duradeck they essentially destroyed the waterproof barrier. Why didn't they just buy a smaller drain to fit into the wrapped pipe? I'm no expert in the field of decks but I would start over and bring in someone that specializes in waterproofing decks.

If I'm reading/understanding this correctly: you're not talking about surface mounting a box on the side of the house. You are indeed talking about flush/recess mounting an outlet box in the floor surface of the deck? I have never seen a box made/listed for that use. And a quick online search doesn't turn up much. A standard plastic plastic box isn't listed for that type of use, and the NEC requires all standard outdoor receptacles to be GFCI protected(yes, I know there's an exception or two)and that the cover completly enclose the cord end when a cord is plugged into the outlet.(art. 406.8b) That would leave a big plastic cover on the surface of the deck. I like the idea, but I think you are limited by product availability, and code restrictions regarding the big obtrusive covers.

We just installed this product on our deck in NJ and had our first heavy rain and a few minor ones and it has been dry as a bone underneath.. We also were concerned that there were no reviews from actual users available online but took a chance based on the fact that we could find only 2 such products on the market and the Admiral Spacemaker was much more attractive and seemed to be a much stronger and better made product. The other we found was DuxxBak which has a hollow core and I believe has fillers whereas the Spacemaker is solid and apparently pure PVC. There do not seem to be many installers with experience with this but we went with a general contractor whom we know and trust. He read the instructions and watched the videos and did a great job.-a bit slow with the first few boards but quickly picked up speed. The only downside so far is that it is somewhat pricey but we had received an estimate for just a ceiling installation under deck and was warned by the installer that it could be a problem if we ever had to sand the wood above since sawdust (or other debris) could clog the water flow on the under deck ceiling. Our deck would have needed refinishing soon and between that cost and the under- deck ceiling cost we felt this would be cheaper and less trouble in the long run. Overall everyone at the company was very helpful and the purchase and delivery went smoothly . If you are considering the product ask for their technical spec brochure which has some independent lab test results. Again this is a new installation but from the looks of it and based on everything we know we are very pleased and dont expect any problems

I have a small deck, roughly 4.5' tall and 5.5' deep and I would like to convert all that unused space underneath to create some sort of storage facility. I apologize if I'm not using the right "deck terms" :) WATERPROOFING I was looking at Trex Rain Escape waterproof membrane between the joists, but a) it's awfully expensive b) it would require taking off the existing deck boards and c) it's not readily available at any retailer near me. So now I'm considering corrugated asphalt roof panel which is considerably cheaper and also seems easier to install. I did a bit of research on the installation, but I had a few questions: 1) Is this an appropriate solution? I was also looking at corrugated polycarbonate sheets (?) 2) There are 2 ledger boards at each end of the deck with a ~3" gap between them - am I limited to installing the panels within the interior of the ledgers or is there an alternative solution that I'm not thinking about? 3) The deck is not attached to the house structure, so there is no flashing in place, so what would be the best solution for waterproofing that gap? 4) What could I use to stop sideways rain and snow from blowing in through the sides? Currently there is only lattice. FLOORING For the floor, I was leaning towards building a raised platform using some of those same concrete blocks with 2x6 joists and then a panel of PT plywood on top, because trying to level that whole area with tamper would prove quite challenging giving the limited space.
