Congrats! Yep, at this point they're still producing photosynthates for the tree, so might as well keep them around until you have some mature leaves on the bud.

My hand shakes to much from non Parkinson type nerve damage. Can't hold any thing that small or work the bark away from the T slit in the rootstock. I am able to side graft as seen above because the cut holds the scion in place while I wrap it. I am going to try bark grafting on my 2 in-ground tangerine trees to make use of their massive root systems. My goal is to have several Meiwa kumquat trees and New Zealand lemonade trees.

The big difference between the norther citrus'er and myself.

1) I am only interested in growing a couple of varieties of good tasting citrus varieties that I can't buy locally.

2) I want to grow something I can pick fresh all winter while my other fruits & berry plant/trees are dormant.

3) I am looking towards harvesting bushels of fruit ever year spreading over 7 months of October through June. not just quick pick. (peaches, cherries).

4) I an interested in fruits that are more insipid not bursting with flavor. Sweet lemon, Meiwa kumquat, Arkansas blacking apple. Danube cherry.

5) The trees must be trouble free and easy to grow in Cincinnati climate with minimal equipment and cold protection.

I read of other that are experimenting with the most fantastic tasting varrieties bursting with sweet home grown flavors. While quantity is nice it appears to be a strong second to highest of quality fruit. Growers also are will to raise difficult varieties to get that specific taste of a rare fruit. I really enjoy reading of these endeavorers and the successes. I really like seeing the pictures of these trees and fruits that all of you grow. If I can just get about 4 more citrus grafts to take I will be done and have what I want.

All my original trees died and the only ones I have now are gifts from Cory, Pip, and Ann. They are all doing very well.

Yeah, my lemonade is half dead. Your definitely having better luck with yours. I had a root eating bug issue from my store bought soil that I didn't discover until the whole rootball was mostly gone. It still hasn't recovered. :(

Pip I am sorry to hear that. I found 1 wire worm in the soil for my Fukushu kumquat tree so I put their favorite food to trap any others, sweet potato. I did not get any others and realize that there is a lottery's chance I killed the only one there was. The trees all stoped growing but still look good.

My apologies--I'm sorry to hear that. Have you considered whip & tongue grafting? I've heard that's one of the main methods FWG uses, though the risks are obviously much higher.

It was interesting to read your observation about other northern citrus growers--you're dead on.

Tom I was born with the problem and it started showing by age 5. It is not progressive so I won't deteriorate with age. I have found a method of grafting that is easy for someone like my self. With practice I will probably do better as time passes. My bud is now growing visually every day. Soon I hope to have a nice tree.

How's the rooting going?

The New Zealand lemonade cutting died off very quickly. the lemon seems to have bark to dirt problems. My tangerine cuttings still have no roots but look good with leaves and green stems into the dirt. I can send some bud wood from the New Zealand tree if you need some. I have 5 grafted/grafting US897 and that is all I need. I have 15 left to give to you and tom. I have to check with Tom to see if he wants any.

Yes Thanks I am not in any rush for the seeds. Ill track weather and get them well hydrated and sent Monday next week if temps look good. I am swamped with work the next 2 day and I don't want trees in a warehouse Saturday and Sunday.
