What to put in place of a 24" wall oven?

I am going to replace my hated electric cooktop with a Gas Stove. I am debating a standard width or wider model stove. Anyway, to make a long story short, I don't have time or money for a kitchen remodel right now and my 24" Jenn-Aire wall oven died.

Do I replace it now and with what or, do I live without it? What can I put in its place? Does anyone make a retrofit wine cooler or mini-fridge I could put in its place? What to do ....

If you're going with a standard stove instead of a separate cooktop and wall oven, perhaps you could build shelves into the area that the oven used to be and use it as open shelving?

do you use the oven a lot usually? are you big in the baking area? there are those here who have lived fine for yrs w/ a Breville (or other) counter top oven. I used a counter top oven for about 14 yrs. I only switched to a range when I moved - because there was this big empty space between cabinets that had a vent fan over it... I got one from CL. I seldom use the oven - once a month would be often for me. garlic toast, roast some chilies, a tiny meatloaf (I've since started making ML burgers in the skillet). some muffins.

if I didn't need to fill that space I'd still have just a single induction hob and a counter top oven. if I redid my counter I'd put in a 2 hob'er.

might not be able to put a counter top oven in the enclosed space tho.

I have an open space (maybe it was for the mw?) at counter height in a flr to ceiling cab. I use it for my CD player and a few other misc things. it does have an outlet in it. oh, the dog's cookie jar is there too.

You are not alone. I started replacing my outdated appliances one-by-one after we move in 5 yrs ago. I have managed fine with my vintage double wall oven but it is time to go and the last of it. Fridge, cooktop, vent hood, dishwasher, washer/dryer. Clothing cleaner, dishes clean and using less water, (no leaks!), gas cooktop better output and more even, hood vents better. We did look for simple on/off in an oven. Not many choices in 24" and did at one point settle on the Bluestar single. Got busy with work so another year went by, realized we would miss two ovens...back to research I would never have my old one repaired. It does not exist without huge cost. I would rather put that expense into a more even cooking experience...i need to rotate every 20 min. Clock and timer has not worked in years said the original owner and she spent days tracking down a new bulb...and the finish is pealing off on the sides, and all around the broken clock, etc. Mine are not installed yet so i can't help with the sound. Can you check with some neighbors or friends to visit and actually 'hear' what your concern is...and yes, you could open the door and let the heat out a bit that way. I suppose that would cool it down faster and stop the fan? I don't know and i'm not much help, just commiserating. Oh, i went with Fagor side hinge and Thermadore steam...both from open box scratch and dent place. No dent, no scratch, open box. 2200 for both.

Would love to have input on this --don't want to do something dumb! Am planning on a 36 inch rangetop, and two 24 inch ovens. I'm pretty certain that will give us very ample capacity for how we cook. (We can augment with the Green Egg outside if we need to but we are just the two of us. . . .) I'm looking at the new Miele 5000 series online -- it's not available yet. There is a new radiant/convection "compact oven" that matches the size of the Speed Microwave convection oven -- 24 inches wide, about 23 deep and 18 high. Inside capacity from side to side is 16.3 inches. My stuff would fit. Now the question -- I am thinking of putting these side by side in the island facing the range. I want them to be as high as possible so would let the island come up 4 inches to about 40 inches. I am short -- 5'3" -so that helps this scenario. I think this would work -- but I would love to have your reactions, questions, cautions. I could put them in the wall next to the rangetop, but they would have to sit just about right next to it --functionally, OK but a little jammed looking. And the Miele's have a black and steel contemporary feeling which I would like to take out of the sight lines in my "old house" kitchen. I could also put them back to back in the island -- but the access would be easier if they opened on the same aisle -- it just works out a little better from a floor-plan-aisle-width perspective. Would love to have some feedback on this . . . .

Any reason you don't want a steam or speed oven? Aside from the added cost (which of course isn't an entirely trivial concern), there really isn't much, if any, downside to them (particularly with Miele which has a broiler) and a steam oven in particular really allows you do to things you just can't do with a regular oven.

@wdccruise, that is correct. Akurum was discontinued and we now have Sektion. That is why I made the call-out. @MJ, I don't have any recommendations for installers. I know I had considered the kitchen couple and also Traemand's, but in the end, I ended up using Apart & Together, but he has since moved to a different state and has retired. I would reach out to Traemand's with the question if you are thinking of using them. Or if you plan on using a different installer, please ask them. They can review your kitchen (sometimes for a fee) in order to make sure that everything that is needed will be ordered.

I have a separate built in microwave so, I don't need another one. I don't want a built in coffee maker either. I also have a Breville Smart Oven 800XL but, I have no counter space for it in this old farm house. :-(

Baking in general? Why yes, I do bake enough to want a real oven. What would I do with my Le Creuset and Staub oval and round 'ovens' when I am roasting meat in them? I guess I could build a fire pit out back and use some Lodge cast iron but, I don't want live every day like a boy scout or settler on the prairie. I also like braises and finishing off skillet meals under the broiler.

What I didn't like about the 24" wall oven was it's limitations with pizza. It doesn't cook a large pizza very well. While I'm not big into cookies or dinner rolls, I would also like to be able to use a full size commercial baking sheet, especially around the holidays.

I have thought about a small steam oven for breads but, why spend so much on such a little oven? If I get a bread baking oven, it needs to be more of a standard full size oven.
