Bala driving me nuts!!!
Comments (7)Don't blame yourself. I just got rid of three in the 5-8 inch range I acquired from a person leaving town (and his aquarium) --and they wouldn't even EAT in my presence. (But they nibbled my plantlets down to the substrate every night, arrgh!). The larger 2 would occasionally slam to the top for no apparent reason and splash water all over if I had the top open, and the smallest already both eyes damaged, probably from just such antics. Eventually I found that if I filled the tank all the way to almost touching the top, they would still swim up and splash water (the previous owner had cats!)(?) -but wouldn't try to jump. I miss 'em ... but the tank was(is) only 37 gallon, and they were forever butting/rubbing noses against the glass unless I turned their lights off. I also eventually discovered they _would_ voraciously eat scraps/gristle on chicken bones, as ALL of my various fish now do. I had been adding half a 500mg Oyster-Shell Calcium tab to each tank every few weeks, but maybe that wasn't enough: My Plecos and Algae-Eaters can't get enough of chewing on the ends of the bones left behind when my other fish finish with them....See MoreHelp Me! Comments (7)BabyWatson..you didn't say which ones you have...I am assuming they are pruning group 2s which can be finicky and slow to get started..Might I suggest you try the Viticellas..the pruning group 3s..sounds like you are doing everything right..but I find that all these sites that say full sun can be misleading..especially for warmer zones like myself..they can grow just beautifully in 6 hours of sun and therefore my best ones get the morning sun and shaded from the hot evening sun..those I have in more intense sun need watering more...they can also just disappear...wilt?..and then pop back up with more vigor..it's all about their root system..if it does wilt..just prune back to the ground..but don't forget to keep watering if nothing is there...Jeanne ps..I can't grow Fuschia either..too hot here...trust me I have killed about 3 trying to grow them...I either overwater or something.......See Moremy bhut is dropping buds and it's driving me nuts
Comments (13)willard, you've posted that list before, but I guess I've never given it serious thought until now (well, now I have that problem). I see a few items on the list that may apply. -now that there's very little rain I've been having to water it with city water, which has a very high calcium content, among other things. -I haven't seen as many bees around as I used to see, but I don't imagine that's the issue when pods aren't even opening. - I've seriously cut back on the nitrogen I give it because I have heard before that it has a negative effect on pod development. -size of pot, yeah, they're 3-4ft tall in 5 gallon buckets, 2 per bucket. that's probably an issue. -too much grower attention, guilty as charged. -there's plenty of light to be had, and air circulation is never an issue. -too low humidity is never an issue here in FL, but what about too high humidity? I'd imagine that could make the pollen clump together and not do its job. am I off base on that one? so it looks like 5 out of 11 on that list may/do apply to me. I guess I'm screwed. there's nothing I can do about the water, short of having to filter it, I guess I can put them in the ground like I did with my brain strain (which currently has 10 pods growing, one of which is mostly ripe), and I don't suppose I could bribe the bees to come back, could I? Josh, I've never fully understood what I was supposed to do when they tell you the strength to mix the fert. is the intention that you mix one tbsp per gal (or whatever it says) and water the plants fully with that? what I usually do is mix slightly below recommended strength, and only give each plant a little bit of the fert-water mix (I mix up a 2 gal watering can, and divide it roughly evenly among my 10 pots), then come back and finish watering with normal water, that way I don't over fertilize. am I doing it wrong? I've never seen any leaf burn. but yes, the leaves that fall off are usually still quite green, but not really all that healthy looking....See MoreSmall rental house is driving me nuts!! Am I alone??
Comments (20)There should be a separate listing here for Living in Temporary Housing. We had hassles with our town's Building Review Board that delayed our build. Otherwise we would not have had to do temp. housing for four fun-filled months. (The hassle was illegal, but suing would have meant *two years* in temp housing while we waited for a court date. I lost 30 lbs. fighting this.) It was just DH and me and our Westie. We had a 2-BR furnished apt. with one bedroom full of furniture and boxes. The apartment above us was rented by four college boys who were living there while they worked at Great America -- late shift. There were never only four boys up there! Across the hall was the local dope dealer -- who had a competitor a few buildings away. We moved into our house and were content to live with the painters for weeks. Then we moved back out again -- to a different furnished apartment -- for a week so that the floor guy's bad hardwood job could be re-sanded and re-stained and re-poly'd. (See, you may only *think* it will be OVER!)...See Morestockergal
