Love my pond but......
Comments (23)Hi Waterbug guy, No it is a liner pond which I foolishly added some subsoil clay to. I wish I hadn't but as you say nature couldn't give two hoots for what you want. I still enjoy my pond & I can see the fish when they come up to feed, they are all healthy & that's the main. I too don't believe in constant cleaning & just let nature take it's course. I chuck plants in & it's got a 50/50 chance, survive or die! I don't think water hyacinths do well over here I asked a garden centre guy once & he says they'll last about 6 weeks then die, I'm not paying good money for that. What survives will flourish the next year & I love the fact that wildlife finds its way into the pond with no help whatsoever. It's one of the reason I have a second pond with nothing but what finds its way there. Some TV shows over here campaign to get you to put aside a corner of your garden to wildlife & build natural ponds to try & help native UK species that are in decline as a lot of areas in the UK are covered in housing & overkept gardens (no fear of that in mine!). I was delighted when some newts moved into my pond, this is one of the targeted species to help. I know what you (at least I think I do)mean by gov supported mud bottom ponds. We (or at least in this area) call them dew ponds & the gov (via monetary subsidies)is encouraging farmers to build or reinstate these (even though 50 yrs ago they paid farmers to rip up hedges & drain& plough up nature rich areas etc to increase production. but that's govs for you!) plus all sorts of other wildlife stuff schemes to improve the natural environment instead of hard intensive farming. I worked on an agricultural research farm for 12 years, so I saw a lot of these schemes implemented on the farm I worked. As long as my pond is healthy I'm happy. I like this forum as you get lots of different opinions & ideas....See MoreLove the cats but...
Comments (15)My cats vomit the wheatgrass too. Re hairballs, my cats are short-haired, and one of them has never had a hairball in 9 years, and the other gets them maybe once a year. I've chosen to decorate instead with art on the walls, pottery (not delicate, the thick kind that doesn't knock over easily), and also learned that sometimes, you know what, decoration isn't necessary. Sometimes we have the urge to keep embellishing and decorating when a clean clear space would be nicer. @Ninigret - my cats would use that screen as a climbing wall in 2 seconds....See MoreLove the space itself, but...
Comments (26)I like it, except for the bricks. I do not like bricks at all, except perhaps on a pathway or stoop, and I especially do not like them indoors. I do like that there are no rugs. I wear slippers indoors and do not need rugs for my feet, as I do not like to be barefoot, unless I am on a beach. I don't care for the antlers either, and I would be concerned that there would be too much light from the ceiling on a sunny day, which is what I am mostly used to. Also, the books in the fireplace are stupid - they should be put on some of the empty shelves, unless they are intended to be kindling. Don't like the color scheme - too much brown/beige, but it's not that offensive, except for the brown bricks. I especially like the one door that I can see....See MoreFound a carpet I love, BUT...
Comments (4)Welcome to Houzz. I'm a hard flooring expert...cork actually so I'm not much help with carpet. The only thing I can say is to keep shopping. If you manage to get hold of a (tiny) swatch, then take it carpet shopping with you. What I can tell you is this: COLOUR is much more important in design than texture. I know you like the texture but 1000sf (or more) will cause this subtle texture to disappear (visually). You will go 'blind' to the texture very quickly. That means, if you find a COLOUR match to this carpet, you should SERIOUSLY consider it. At the end of the day, the colour will remain (you will always see the colour) but the minute texture/pattern will disappear very quickly (your brain will filter it out so that you only see the colour). Like looking at a field of rippened wheat, you only see the gold COLOUR...not the individual heads of grain....See More- 8 years agolast modified: 8 years ago
