Comments (108)For the birthday girls And, Marian, I think you had asked whether your birthday flower was a wild rose? I forgot to answer you sorry No, it wasnt a wild rose. It is a Pink Beauty potentilla flower. I believe they are botanically related to roses hence the similarity in the flowers. I love the Pink Beauty shrubs and they are the backbone of the driveway border. They are late to leaf out in the spring but start blooming in late June and continue into late October. They are fabulous, tough, carefree shrubs that merge well with perennials in beds and borders. Eden the shed foundation is a lot about 2 ½ cubic yards worth! of compacted gravel, topped by 2x2 and 2x3 concrete patio stones. The ground under the old shed was very soft so they kept compacting the gravel in and it kept disappearing into the ground! They kept adding more until the ground was stable and level. The base is 9x 11 for the 8x10 shed. On top of the stones, they laid a sill of Trex (waterproof, rotproof) boards and then used pressure-treated 2x4s on top for the base of the wall framing. Martie Im glad to hear that Rich has a good opinion of the shingle panels and that they can indeed be put up in the cold. It worries me a bit that this is obviously a product that these guys are unfamiliar with. I printed and read the installation instructions and it looks pretty idiot-proof! (not that these guys are idiots) It looks like the cedar panels are the lumber industrys solution to the high labour cost and time involved in applying individual shingles on site. It looks like a pretty ingenious solution. When I was still living down east 25+ years ago, shingles were still applied in the traditional way. I suspect that shingles have been losing out to cheap-and-easy vinyl siding even down home for a number of years now. A pity Norma yes, the upper four panels of the door will get cut out and replaced with one large Plexiglas panel. I hope it doesnt end up looking like too much glass! All the windows will be Plexiglas Im notorious for breaking things and Id be sure to put a rake handle or something through regular glass! They were supposed to be here doing the windows and roof his morning but havent arrived yet. There will be trim boards in the gable end but thats all. I think that will be enough to balance things out when the front is finished. And there will eventually be shrubs again at the sides. Once they grow up a bit, the shed wont be quite so exposed at is looks right now. Jerri that cat video was a hoot! On poodles A standard poodle was on our list of possible replacement dogs for Chelsea. But not after we baby-sat a neighbours miniature poodle late this summer. He is a very nice dog but I didnt like the feel of his coat! Patting him didnt generate the same tactile pleasure as patting Chelsea or Misty. A silly reason for not choosing a particular breed but Im sure, if a nice poodle came along needing a home, we would adjust On laundry Dreadful chore! But I actually dont do a lot of it. DH (did I say hes a real sweetie!) takes care of most of it. We do have a stacking washer/dryer in our bathroom so its close to where the laundry is generated.. But theres also a regular washer and dryier in the basement. Since that one is not accessible for me, DH does most of the heavy loads there and I just do any of the finer stuff using the stacking one in the bathroom....See MoreHelp me go more modern..or just no way?
Comments (35)Are we related? I LOVE the Ether chandelier and it was my first choice for the entry (double-height) light -- I'd misread the price. Ha ha ha on me! And then I found the tumbleweed chandelier (Sunlight Chandelier by Trans Globe Lighting) and I realized once again that everything happens for a reason! (Meaning, I found a fixture I like a lot with a price which allows me to sleep at night, but that doesn't mean I don't still have thoughts about it. Although, I'm now dreaming of the Tord Boontje Blossom Chandelier -- yowza! Wow, those fixtures you linked are terrific. You have some eye! I am definitely coming to you when I need help. The big square fixture is by Knikerboker Lighting, from Archisesto, which is a firm run by our very own giacomo_it! It's the Qubo 55cm and I love it love it love it. Here it is in our dining room: We only have two of the Louis Ghost chairs as well, and you can't see them in this photo: they're flanking the mizuya (which we use as a buffet, on the far right). I got them from eBay for significantly less than DWR. Yippee! We have four typical Louix XVI wood chairs from Ethan Allen and then two Varenne Opera Chairs from Casa-Midy at the heads. I love those chairs .... Our table is also big and heavy, so I totally know what you mean about the Ghost chairs not being weighty enough. The wall against which the mizuya and Ghost chairs are is mirrored, so I esp. love having the Ghost chairs there. My children (four and two) also like sitting in "The Glass Chairs," and their little female friends get a big kick out of them as well! (I think it's something princess-y, but since I have sons that's a topic which has totally passed me by!) (This is my kitchen. See what I mean about traditional?)...See MoreQuotes 11 - 13 - 17 page 1

Comments (74)This is a thinking post. Really make you crawl into your head and ...ponder. I've been hesitant to speak much about myself in the KT lately, but I've been drawn in by the pure bittersweet. As some of you know I've been diagnosed with metastasized lung cancer...it's in my right lung, lymp nodes in my chest, around the heart, in most bones and two tumers in the brain causing swelling and fluid. Im undergoing brain radiation treatments at present..I'll have 10 of these..today I finished 6...my 10'th will be Thursday than I'll start chemo and immunotherapy I think I was told I'd have 3 chemo and immuno than 21 days off than 3 and 21 off for a total of 4 or 5 sesions. My Oncologist wasn't pleased to postpone chemo but they won't do it with radiation and the brain must be saved first. So I'm facing death. There's no cure for me unless God sends me a miricle. I ask my brain doctors when radiation started if he could give me a week...he told me....I'm so very sorry but where your brain tumers are located and the stage...I can't promise you tomorrow but....we are all fighting this with you and a LOT of Prayers, HOPE, and new medicines have given many people in your situation TIME and LIFE. This is what scares me the most....the not knowing from one moment to the next...as if I'm a time bomb...ticking. already I have arm seizures daily, head pain, but it's lessioning up some... God how I've been thinking for weeks the same questions Lucille has ask.. From the first moment I was told about my cancer... My family became my first priority. Nothing absolutely nothing is more important than family, no pretty clothing, no nice cars, no amount of money could ever be more important than family. And Dear God my boys and Amiee. I've also thought about all the other important things that must be taken care of, such as....well....important papers, etc all in a neat folder and labled. So much to do and get in order..sometimes I just don't want to think about any of the mundane stuff I must do and just grab the family and have fun. Like after this post last night...I sent my son for ice cream and even though it was a school night I kept the boys up and we had a ice cream fest..the boys LOVED it. Right now my family is filling up air mattresses in the family room, digging out sheets , pillows, blankets...we're having a weekend PJ party. My adult sons are here to join us as is Amiee's BF Kody. Lots of ice cream, cookies, etc along with some good breakfasts and dinners thru the weekend....huge messes with all this bedding, but SO WHAT...the boys were absolutely thrilled that I cancelled their showers tonight and told them to get into their PJ's. Everyone will just be vegging, laughing, and having fun. Limited work except the basics...bare basics. This makes me happy...I love my family and I want to share and feel their smiles. I've installed enough good habits in the boys that they know the importance of good eating habits, bathing, ect....letting up, easing up once in awhile won't hurt them one bit but will go a long way in giving them peace of mind and some real laughter. Guess I've realized a little slack in routine and all the good healthy life is great, but there must be enough balance to provide a healthy body and mind. For me it's all about family...and the boys and Amiee are of course my greatest concern right now. I try so hard to stay strong, not dwell on what's to happen....but God how can I leave these kids..this is the question that's always on my mind...I know I cant...as long as my brain is still functioning, and there's a breath in me I refuse to give up. I'll take the fear, the pain..I'll suffer the agonizing....I'll do whatever I must do to continue to be with my kids....and we will eat ice cream while I do it. I'm sure I got way off topic Lucille, I found myself saying, sharing, to much yet again. I always did have this bad habit. Lucille, I truly Pray all is well with you. Enjoy those cinnamon rolls, and other cookies, your bike rides, and everything fun your life offers. Do it all with a peaceful heart, and a smile. ((((HUGS))))....See Moresheilajoyce_gw
