oops, Ross Rosette found

I spent all day Saturday at my daughters house cleaning flower beds. I am so sore can't move very well. All went well until we discovered Rose Rosette Disease on her Fairy rose. I cut the large shrub down to about six inches, cleaned all of the leaves and mulch away and put down seven dust. I told her I didn't think we could save the rose but I gave it my best shot. We will see what happens???

actually it was the first time I had seen the disease on a rose. I had only seen pictures before Saturday.

other than that it was a very productive day. I thought it was early May, 80 degrees and clear blue skies and very light winds. Love it!!!!

i took a cutting from her neighbors hybrid honeysuckle brought it home and potted it up. We will see if it roots, so far it looks good. I usually just put them directly in the ground but I thought it was to early so I put it in a pot. We will see!!! I've been moving it in and out of the house according to the temps.

I hope the weather men are right and we all get a nice rain. Typical Oklahoma from swamp to desert.

My husband cut down two huge rose plants last fall, a New Dawn and a Betty Prior that had it. Broke my heart.

Rose rosette is so frustrating. I'm sorry it has hit your roses. I don't even plant roses any more. We have a few left from the ones I planted when we first moved here, but once they are gone, I won't plant more. There's too much trouble with them nowadays.

The weather has been so gorgeous that today's return to more typical February weather is hard to bear. We did need the rain, but I already miss the heat and the sunshine. We have a little over an inch of rain so far today, but it is the change in temperatures that bothers me. I'm happy to see the rain. We had our high for today in the early morning hours when it hit about 55 degrees. We're now down to 39 degrees.

Last week was gorgeous, and Saturday was our warmest day here at 82 degrees. Most days the high had hovered around 79 degrees, which is not too shabby for February. I wonder how long it will be before we have another 80 degree day. Probably too long. We were desperately dry, so I am not complaining about the rain.

alameda: I have souv.de un ami. Big vase shaped plant that grows vigorously and blooms quite literally continuously. Sometimes you have tons of blooms, sometimes you have some blooms, but always blooms. It is healthy - can do without spraying and still look good. In my garden its practically evergreen - looks good right this minute. It has the tea tendency to respond to pruning by putting the new growth at a right angle, but not nearly so much as does Clemantina and some others. This is a terrific rose - you did well. rainbow 2007 - Hybrid Musks will be quite giddy with happiness in full sun. All of mine are in full sun and they stay much cleaner than they did in partial shade as well as they grow and bloom with great enthusiasum. We just added three more...DH will love the fact that RU has new ones to offer.

Also, I didn't address this, but I got this from Ashdown in 2009, so I it is an own root plant. At least that is my understanding. But I don't think there would be anyway for me to separate the roots of the diseased from the rest, because the most recent new growth is almost in the center, while the other section is on the far left. That would seem to me to indicate that too much of it is infected to even consider separating it. I'm not sure I have much confidence in it surviving anyway (especially with me doing a chopping job on it). I think I might be better off to bite the bullet, and proceed with another plan. I can't imagine the frustration of hacking down a row of productive blackcurrents 3 times. That had to be extremely painful. One thing this has done is motivate me to work on other areas of the lawn that I planned to take over anyway. My husband has been a bit resistant, but I have shown him enough nice examples of what can be done that he is now on board. I have about 13 boxwood, a cedar, and many other things that I need to plant now anyway. I've learned a great deal, and that is one of the things I love about gardening anyway-endless number of things to learn, and some aspects are just trial and error ultimately. You can't succeed if you don't try, and there are bound to be failures no matter what you do.

I saw a picture on the Internet once of black pinwheel with white dots, but it was old tile in an old house. Not helpful, I know. If you give up on the black basketweave, you could design your own mosaic at Daltile. (I haven't done it so I can't give a personal recommendation.) They don't have a basketweave blank on the website but there are a pinwheel and a few sizes of hex tile. Black hex with white rosettes might work well in your space... for that matter you might be able to find plain black hex somewhere, then make your own pattern with white hexes pulled from another sheet. We put in Am Olean pinwheel dot and I find the glazed porcelain to be easy to clean, even in white. Your original tile might be unglazed, same as ours was. Glazed tile has a very different surface. With glazed porcelain, it's the grout that gets stained. We have light gray grout and if I were doing it again I'd get charcoal or black. Might one of the white-background basketweaves work for you if you use dark grout? I'm sorry I don't know where to get exactly what you want... maybe it is out there somewhere. Good luck! Exactly, although I really appreciate your critique of my bedroom space. DH would not allow me to switch chest of drawers. That's his "side" of the room, bed, bench, lol. Y'all don't know what it took to talk him into curtains! Although, he has been pretty good throughout this decorating process. I did previously try to put the basket under the side table, but it is too tall with the pillows and would be a pain to get under to retrieve them. As for the air return, I cannot block it with anything that large and solid. You should have seen the dust on the solid painted screen. The heating and air guys were not thrilled with that, either. One of these days, I'll see the perfect console table to put there, but in the meantime, that's what I feel comfortable with and it's staying. I can't believe y'all have not seen these decorative screens as just that...decorative! Must be a southern thing. Anyhow, all I wanted to do is show you my newly revamped space because it is such a big improvement over what it was. Thank you for the kind words, tryingtodecorate. The color is Decatur Buff in the bedroom, and my fireplace wall is as well. I have considered painting that entire wall like the trim color, a paneled look like my previous home (seen below) and may do so when we replace the fireplace box (another story.) yayagal - We may sell, so come on!

Rose Rosette is heart breaking. I have had to remove several roses. I have quit buying roses in honor of anyone, because it is doubly heartbreaking if that one dies. If you have wild roses (multfilora) in the area, they are a definite vector for it. The Knock-Out roses seem to be particularly susceptible, but, on the other hand, the new growth mimics it to an extent. I spent quite a bit of time last year trying to convince someone to wait and watch before ripping out a bed of Knock Out Roses.
