My skinny little girl
Comments (13)My DD is 8 and probably one of the thinnest girls in her class at school. It's hard to shop for her. Even with the pants with the adjustable waistband, we cinch those up tight as they go. At the same time, she has a big appetite. So while people tell me how thin she is, if they've seen her eat they never ask "Don't you feed her?" LOL. She is a gymnast. So when people see her in short sleeves and shorts, summer clothes, what they notice is how muscular she is. Her practices include conditioning and her coaches talk to the girls about making healthy food choices. So while DD eats several times a day, she eats bananas, yogurt, etc. DD is average height. Some of the girls on her gym team are also shorter than average, so overall very petit. But when they do more sit ups than anyone else in PE as school, no one tells them they are "too skinny" or makes any assumptions about their size! The girls surely know they are small. But they know first that they are strong. Some people have expressed concern about young girls being in gymnastics, that they will feel pressure to by skinny, not eat well. But clearly, we've had exactly the opposite experience! The coaches want the girls to feel strong and healthy and to love their bodies enough to care for them. I would completely ignore the comments of others. Put her in a sport that suits her, that will develop a healthy body image that is about strength and fitness. She is my only DD (my others are boys). At her age, her body image is developing and how that takes shape now will last a lifetime. I cannot say enough about the positive impact I think being involved in a sport she loves is having on her self-esteem and body image. On the occassion that DD is told she's skinny, she will show them her muscles! LOL!...See MoreSkinny, Skinny Cat and Sub-Q Question!:
Comments (15)Protein does not cause weight gain, carbohydrates and fats do. You might try adding oil or fat to his diet. I agree with Socks that many very old cats do become thin and frail just as a consequence of being old. Cancer can also be a cause of weight loss. All my cats were thin with prominent ribs when they reached their late teens and 20s. The same is true for many geriatric human patients. I also agree with Socks that as long as your elderly cat appears comfortable and has a good appetite, he is still healthy for his age and you are doing a very good job caring for him. I'm not sure these photos illustrate how thin my 20 1/2 yr old cat actually is but you can feel every rib when you pick her up. She is a feather weight. She looks disgruntled in the top two pics because I disturbed her nap and lifted her into a standing position hoping to capture her physique. (Also she has many comfy beds, but like all cats, often prefers a cardboard box. The bottom photo is of her sleeping on her heating pad.)...See MoreDoes this kitchen make my family room butt look SMALL?
Comments (11)Hi Palimpsest! Nice to see you over in Decorating! The lower right corner of the house would be the new Living Room. Sorry I forgot to label. We would like to keep both the Family and Living rooms. Bmorepanic tried to talk me into one big seating-type room recently. DH and I have thought about this many times during our 11 years here, but it doesn't feel right to us. We entertain A LOT and everyone seems to like to spread out and get separation from other guests when necessary. Rhome410 drew a different arrangement over on the Kitchen Forum as I posted this there also. I think it could work. Funny, this house is definetly NOT contemporary. It's just a house. No style, really. Just a house. It was built about 40 years ago in a solid neighborhood with great amenities, but is very basic. We're trying to give it some style and charm. We have/had (now torn out during demo) a very large brick woodburning fireplace stack roughly where mine is drawn with a firebox on each side offset from each other. It was a monster and took up too much space. We'd really like to keep a fireplace. I thought the double-sided one was a great idea to provide some separation b/w FR and LR, but yet keep the rooms more open than they were....See MoreFloor protector for modern skinny-leg bar stools??
Comments (7)Jennifer, I know this post is a few years old, but so curious to know what worked for you. I just ordered the same stools and am really nervous about protecting my wood floors. The legs being so skinny and (rounded?) on the bottom make it look like it’s going to be difficult to find a good solution. Would love to know that something worked!...See Morecliff_and_joann
