Computer lost internet capability

My computer woke up this morning and decided to not go to work. The parts got rusty or the thing got ahold of decaf or something, but it would not hook up to the internet. A shallow look at what little I could dig up revealed this:
>>Active connection State Changed
Missing VPN Plugin
VPN connection state changed
Device failed to activate<<
Any straightforward thing a computer klutz could do here, such as reloading drivers or some such, or should I take it in?

You don't mean "woke up" from a "Suspend" do you? If so, I'd do a restart. If that didn't work, I'd do a shut down.

I rarely use VPN. The only one I've set one up was set up by following the instructions posted on my VPN providers website.

Settings that worked last night should work this morning but... perhaps you had an
update that didn't go quite right? (Just thinking/guessing out loud, I don't really
know.)

If it were me, I'd probably recheck the settings and if nothing seemed incorrect, delete the connection and set it up again.

If that didn't work, I might ask my VPN provider (or search their site, FAQ, etc.).

If that didn't work, I might post on the appropriate Linux forum. (Kubuntu or other active Ubuntu based Linux forum)

This is how mine is set up. Yours will be different, your settings being dictated by your VPN provider, and the look of the dialogue boxes by your desktop environment. (I'm using Mate)

Under "IPv4 Settings", "Method" is set to "Automatic (VPN)".

I would try to do a Restore. If that doesn't work, does your PC have a built-in Recovery function? Or, do you have Windows CDs? You'll know for next time to never delete anything in the Programs folder. And, the date shown in the default view is the date modified (saved), not date last accessed. Assume that all main operating system files and utilities will have dates that are earlier than the date you bought the computer. Never touch 'em.

No, leave that one alone. It's totally different...yet the same. It was made mainly for corporate network use. The old MSN messenger is now Windows Live Messenger, is what you want for world wide internet use. Actually you can message to yahoo messenger user_names with Live instant messaging. And yahoo can message the Live messenger too. But when you interact between the yahoo/live all the other features arent enabled so no simple dropping files or sharing a folder, etc, strickty instant messaging I think. Unless they've changed it now that they are threating corporate takeover.

Device manager access 1.Right click my computer. 2. Choose properties 3. Choose Hardware tab 4. Click Device Manager- you may see (!) these in yellow indicating the problem right click them see the options. Look for network adapters you can get the name of yours there, you can also right click it choose un-install now reboot windows and it should detect new hardware. You may have this fixed already but if not try it.... zep

Embird -- what is is all capable of?

The basic Embird program does editing and resizing and format conversions. You can buy a digitizing plug in that doesn't cost much (about $150 I think) and from what I have read, it works very well! You can see what the different Embird components do on the My Embroidery Haven website (www.myembroideryhaven.com). Marie at MEH is VERY knowledgeable about Embird. Also, you can check out the Martha Pullen machine embroidery forum and do a search on Embird. Lots of ladies there use it and you can learn a lot about it just from reading the posts there. Richard, thank you for your time. I followed the link you provided and it tells me I'm in over my head! But I'll try to do what I can before I take it to a guru. And yes, it is a Kubuntu machine; it just failed to connect one morning after having been turned off all night. Never had the slightest problem with the system otherwise and it's several years old.
