Wisteria Questions (Companion / Colors / Containers )

Hello

Seeking your thoughts on growing wisteria along a sunny side of a brown/red brick house

Not sure of what structure - throwing around ideas atm such as :

  • Having two or three different coloured Wisteria along the house - to help break up the colour, and possible extend the flowering period
  • Can/should multiple Colours be intertwined - or should kept separate?
  • Keep plant in a large container to stop roots spreading. Can this be done without the container (large pot or wood?) eventually cracking under growing roots? How bug will it grow in a container?
  • Another option is pairing a purple Wisteria with a yellow jasmine flower (I like the colour scheme) Can they intertwine easily? (starting from different pots, but climbing eventually together) For example Purple/Yellow combo
  • Will likely be running wire supports alongside house - best way to do this? Unsure if best to keep to straight horizontal lines, or aim for a tree branching pattern (or other espalier).
  • Given a desire to ensure excessive woodiness (and weight) doesn't develop is there a particularly good way to discourage wood growth over flower growth. A quick read indicated pruning methods and phosphorus over nitrogen ?
  • As wary of runaway growth - currently tilting to Japanese wisteria over Chinese. Ideally would like something with a strong fragrance, and/or long flowers growth . . .

Thoughts on the above? (located in Sydney Australia)

Cheers
