I can only imagine the work involved but thank goodness you didn't tear it down! As for the chandelier, yeah, it may not matter what you put there! But, if you want to stay with that cottage cape cod feel consider finding something with more visual weight, and not so many lines. A lantern could be perfect. I don't know if you've ever seen the Currey and Co chandeliers? I love to go to their site just to look at their products, even when i'm not really shopping. This particular chandelier caught my eye for your room. Somethign simple, with some visual weight, although I'm not crazy about the black for your room. But maybe this will spark some ideas... Patty, Ohhh no, I can't handle anymore projects lol. I mostly do not buy project pieces anymore but as the challenge of mixing CL, garage sale and re-homing or thrift pieces all together in some sort of style for son is so hard I don't have much of a choice. Unfortunately I do still have way too many used picture frames and canvases in the garage though (from garage sales). Of course I will probably go half mad trying to find the right cheap but hardy upholstery fabric for those little benches. I'm waiting to find the dining room set before we decide on an accent color which will determine bench fabric color. When one is shopping for all used furniture, it's sort of hard to start with a solid plan for the rooms so things just kind of evolve with what is available in a certain style with a low price tag. I can tell you one thing though; I am going to take upholstery classes in the very near future. Since I have been looking for son's furnishings I have come across the most glorious chairs and sofas for a song. They were priced so cheap because they are not the trendy "in" of my area and needed to be reupholstered...I fell in love with the lines of some of this stuff and must have some of these pieces. I do not live in an area where people have much imagination which is a plus for me and my costs. Right now I can only do simple upholstery but that will change.

Check out lightingdirect.com (another build.com website) and filter with your preferences. Also, check out photos on houzz to find a style you like so you have a starting point. Things to consider: finish, shape, number of lights, style (you already know it'll be modern/contemporary), size and budget. If you know what the pendant lights will be, that could be your starting point. Without having anything other than style to go on, it's hard for us to offer specific suggestions. Oh, another tip. I used Pinterest to collect all my favorite "samples" in one place. Then weeded out from there as I narrowed down my choices. Good luck! This is the fun part.

The effect will depend a lot on the style of the fixture. A bulkier, darker fixture will add more visual weight. You can get an airy linear fixture that won't overwhelm anything and at the same time a round fixture that could be too much for your space. Look at all the brands from Hudson Valley Lighting Group including Mitzi, and also check out Hinkley Lighting. There are so many options that it is hard to suggest something because style plays such a role. I don't think with that small an area that you'd make a mistake going with either linear or round, so pick the fixture you like best.
