I got back two large envelopes with seeds the past week and I cannot believe how many people labeled a seed packet with something like snapdragon, no color, no date of harvest, nothing, just snapdragon. I have no interest in growing a yellow or mix snapdragon so I will never even try to plant those seeds. It's a waste.

I think the hostesses should post that seeds need to be dated with year of harvest, name of seed enclosed and the senders name on packets

. I have run several swaps and have sent seeds labeled like that back to the sender. I think most gardeners want to know what their growing before planting it.

I agree 100%. I don't need cultural information on the seed packet, but the correct genus and species or cultivar is critical.

The year is important because older seeds sometimes need different handling than fresher seeds.

The trader's name is important because if I have a question I can ask, or if the seeds turn out to be falsely named for a nefarious reason people can be warned. If I have received two packs of the same seeds in swaps that I want to grow I will always grow the one that the trader was confident enough of their seeds to put their name on them.

I can find out how to grow anything if I know what it is and when it was harvested.

I agree. I learned from ya'll When i started gardening. I learned the proper etiquette for labeling seeds. I will do my name, harvest year, genus, species at the very least. Its very important to include who the seeds are from.

I think that all swaps should require this. Should I be hosting a swap in the future, I'm going to make it a "must do" (hard-a-- that I am!) LOL
