Advice on choice of rocks to help w/drainage

Would love some ideas on a choice of rock to use along the side of a home which has some drainage issues during big rains (common in South Florida) - some basic info about the home:

1. Mid Century Modern single story

2. Will be painted Gray with White Trim, driveway will be dark gray pavers

3. Would like to put rocks along the perimeter of the home to help reduce muddiness - the house has a flat rough w/o gutters which means that during a hard rain several areas of the house have major drainage. We opted for no gutters b/c we didn't want to ruin the MCM profile of the home.

4. There is a large concrete planter built into the side of the house which gets a fair share of abuse from rainfall...so we think it may be best to fill this rocks with some soil to help drain it during heavy rains. B/c it gets quite a bit of water we're also perplexed about what type of plants to put there.

5. Geographical area - South Florida

Appreciate all ideas and thanks!
