Comments (6)Aimee, what is the Red climbing rose that is in the picture just above where you typed "Royal Sunset"? Is that Red Eden? I hope mine looks that nice eventually if so. I always love this gardens because you always buy roses and have them in the ground, but then you can go to these locations and see them in full swing...or at least most of the time. It gets your hopes up for the same roses you have at home. I love the Enfant de France green budeye. I also like the red/white climbing combo. I've always enjoyed Red/White combinations, but rarely every see the colors together...must just be me. It's nice to see the 2 colors amongst each other....See MoreJubilee Celebration rose for the Jubilee Celebration?
Comments (7)Apparently they were some that the Queen had that she liked. Don't know how much truth there is to that. It may also have seemed like shameless marketing to use their new rose. The designer that chose the roses wasn't anything to do with DA - she requested the roses she liked. They are selling loads of Jubilee Celebration at the nursery - what is weird though is that you can't actually get Royal Jubilee yet - it is only bare roots from nov onwards. All the other new releases are available - just not that one. It is funny that they have put Jubilee Celebration on one of the beds up near the top where the newer roses are - they know how to place things for extra sales :-)...See MoreRoyal Jubilee
Comments (42)Thanks for posting additional photos, Suncoast. The second set of photos have a similar color to RJ, but you mention that your rose is thornless. I'm surprised that HMF describes RJ as thornless or nearly so. It has thorns of varying sizes. The open bloom does not have a flat rosette or button eye like your first photo, but as you describe your rose this is not representative of a typical bloom... The buds on RJ have a pointed shape to them. I took photos of foliage and thorns, the winter damaged canes give another view of the thorns:...See MoreRoyal Jubilee vs Charles R McIntosh vs Pomponella vs Hermosa for hedge
Comments (6)I would be reluctant to combine chinas or teas with DA's rubbing shoulders in a hedge. The vigor, growth patterns, shape, and leaf textures would not complement each other, not to mention the incongruous flower shapes & sizes. If it's due to lack of space, I recommend you focus on size versus color harmony, start your planting with the smaller growers and moving up to the larger shrubs incrementally. For example Hermosa is a smaller plant and would be overwhelmed placed next to a six footer. If you prefer accentuating the different sizes between varieties and want a cottage garden effect, using the right perennials or annuals in between will help tremendously in smoothing out the discordance and creating a pleasing rhythm....See MoreRelated Professionals
