Comments (2)You could attempt to cut its roots out of the hydrangea's root ball. It would be easier if it were indeed a weed, but it could be a tree sapling, in which case it might be more difficult. Try using a hand spade, but it might require a small hatchet or some pruning shears. As long as you get the woody crown and/or most of a taproot out of the ground, the nuisance should not return, or at least not for some time....See MoreWhat Do I do about this...Pics Incl.
Comments (14)That house was built before housewrap was developed; the builder should have used an asphalt-impregnated paper on the sheathing behind the brick. Short of tearing down the walls, there's no way you can repair or replace it. Just make sure the occasional water that comes in does not get trapped behind a poly barrier in the basement or saturates fibrous insulation. Belt and suspenders approach to drainage plane. The bricklayers here hadn't used wrap before, so insisted on using asphalt-paper as well. The black paper laps over black poly on the brick ledge, which acts as a flashing....See MoreWhat do I do with this?
Comments (6)Ok, for your area bermuda of tall fescue would both be options. One thing for certain, killing off all the existing bermuda to go with fescue is no easy task. I'm a fescue guy so I'll leave it to the bermuda pros to answer that. First, do not roto till. It will be nice and smooth for a year or two but will then begin to settle and be really bumpy. For now I would recommend a soil test. Logan Labs is the one most on here use and there are some folks here that can interpret the results and tell you what to do to fix the problem. Right now your time would be best spent determining the cause of the problem and fixing that....See MoreNow what do I do with this?
Comments (12)Hi Littlebug -The house is cool... we fell in love with the possibilities and are just wrapping up a large reno... We replaced the windows with high impact (hurricane rated) windows. That's why the white trim work is on the upper celestial windows waiting for whole house painting. The windows on each side of the door are also high impact but they have a privacy white glass which allows light to filter in. I have this privacy glass in the bathrooms and the home office (messy) as well. They do show up in photos with a greenish tint.... but not in person. I think some of that tint is also due to the existing non painted stucco entrance. I wanted to keep the door panes clear so I can see who is approaching. I never hang drapes and have only pull down blinds for the bedrooms when privacy is necessary. Some guest are freaked out but we have no neighbors that can see in and are in a very quite area. Thanks for asking and giving me feed back I appreciate your interest....See More- 10 years ago
