They transplant well if you pay attention to digging them up properly. Take a look at the link below and notice the root structure. It is grows down and then away from the stalk. Unfortunately you don't know which direction, so dig carefully and slowly with a trowel (or dig a big clump). Here is a link that might be useful:

bsmith, the corky ridges are a feature of some individuals. In my experience observing them locally it's only some of the young ones that express this trait. I've never seen a large mature tree with wings in these parts, doesn't mean they don't occur though.

Thankyou so much for the help in id'ing the blooms. The red one is definitely more red than orange,okbt. It always looks so lovely against the backdrop of the deeper green of our hedge. The bloom on the first photo is small, as well as the one in the last photo...maybe four inches? The scape is about 3ft in height, with the leaves being much more slender than the Kwanso and my Strawberry Candy dl. Actually, these photos were taken last summer, as I am awaiting more blooms as the first couple were drenched in a heavy downpour yesterday so I posted last years' photos. I think I used my Nikon D70 for these photos, msrose. The one that is possibly the Little Business or Pardon Me, I actually have two plants that I always thought were the same. However, upon looking at my photos from last summer, the two have a slightly different shape to the blooms, and now I wonder if they are different. I will post a photo of the second plant tomorrow. The same day I took those pictures I spread fresh mulch. So the depth issue may be reduced as the mulch settles. I'm thinking #2 might be Summer Fragrance. I remember buying that one. I'm almost sure that #1 is Shade Fanfare as I received that one in one of last years trades. #3 may be gold standard. The other ones I have in my yard are in less shade and are quite a bit lighter. Thanks for all the help, keep the suggestions rolling. I'll post pictures of all my hosta beds over in the picture forums. I bought hostas from someone that was having a refrigerator sale last year. I'm sure at least one of these hosta are from that sale. I can't find the receipt in my email but the vendor name might help. Anyone know who advertises this sale?
