Recommendation mixed induction cooktop?
Comments (8)I have the Viking hybrid and LOVE it!! HOWEVER, I love the induction part so much that I really wish I had gotten the all induction. Of course your copper pots/pans won't work so that's a really good reason to go with the hybrid. The one reason I went with Viking is because of the discussions here RE power sharing. Supposedly, Viking doesnt do that. I'm not sure because the electric switchover to the 50amp isn't complete yet, so I can't use all of the "burners" at the same time. The other reason is because it has 6 "burners" - 4 radiant; 2 induction. You may not like the knobs, but so far, everyone loves them. I have the 36". RE the types of pans, I had some QVC Cook's Essential stainless non-stick and they work fine on both radiant and induction. They are good for everyday pans but I wanted some true stainless for real searing - I miss that. My sister talked me into trying Emeril, so I bought 2 pans. They are wonderful, and have the teeny copper strip. Cleanup is really unbelievable. I'm trying to decide whether to go high-tech with the all-clad or better. But right now, what I have is working, and the hybrid has been a great choice. Hope this helps!...See More36" induction cooktop recommendation
Comments (10)We have a Thermador 36" cooktop, with the black finish, not the zoneless version. In a year of fairly heavy use, it has performed perfectly. So far we have no scratches on the ceran, though I can see some light marks on the steel edge. That's almost certainly due to DH who isn't as careful as he should be. There are no noises that we can detect, other than a low hum when we have the power up high. That's due to the cooling fans, which are less noisy than the Kobe vent which isn't particularly loud at all. If I had to choose from all available options, I would go with the Thermador with the silver finish, assuming this look goes with your kitchen. It is drop dead gorgeous. We were able to buy our cooktop at a great bargain, so passed on the silver mirrored finish. We also thought the black would be better suited to our kitchen. Comments (10)Pretty much everyone makes a 30" induction cooktop. That's the good news. Over on Appliances folks will tell you which brands they like. The 4 that come to mind are Bosch, Miele, Electrolux and Wolf. Each of these has specific requirements for power and clearance below due to heat build up and the kind of power the top generates. The only way to be sure -- and you need to be if it's to work properly -- is via the specification sheets. Those have diagrams and we've all struggled through sitting down and studying them. But it's a must. If you post links to your choice here folks can help you second guess. The deal with induction is that it needs a certain amount of amperage coming in and a certain amount of clearance below, which you know. It also requires magnetic cookware -- anything a magnet will stick to. Assume you're aware of that. I started looking at them with the idea of switching out our electric radiant to induction. I also have the drawer below which I love and would never give up. So don't! Under counter allowances vary from brand to brand. One brand requires 12" below and another requires only 4". Trick is to find the brand that suits your situation. And, since you're in a condo, do ask the electrician to be absolutely sure before you buy the thing that there's enough amperage for it -- again that info's on the spec sheet. It might not be an issue in a home but in a condo it might be and you don't want complications in that regard. And look for a new place to buy. That appliance store, as someone said, doesn't know squat. I sure wouldn't want them providing service on the unit after it's in. Comments (8)Several folks on here have received tax bills from their state for out of state purchases. It's getting easier all the time to track that information. Buying local gives you a point of contact for issues. It's difficult to get the same leverage from a phone call as it is an in person visit and conversation. Plus, it keeps your roads paved and police officers paid....See More
