Thirteen appliances in one high end kitchen
Comments (12)I reused my Asko that I bought when we moved in. Chose it over Miele as I liked the rack configuration better, and felt, and still do, that they are nearly equivalent in performance and quality (not trying to start a war). The bar dishwasher gets used maybe once a week. I got the Thermador only because I got a reseller that bundled it into the fridge towers and wine tower at a substantial discount. I agree its not of the same quality, but so far its perfect. Its as quiet as the Asko, and on the simple tasks of washing glasses, no problem. Its a glorified Bosch unit, and those aren't awful. What I really wanted was a panel ready unit as the wet bar would look awful if all those appliances would dominate the bar without panels. I had the same VAH in my old kitchen (except 42, 900cfm). I don't mind the cleaning aspect, but then again I'm under no delusions about keeping it pristine. Between grilling and high heat stir fry it gets dirty fast, and keeping any hood clean would be futile. The VAH performance is amazing. I was able to vent it directly out with one 90 degree turn on 2 8 inch ducts. (you can see in pic) It is much quieter than I expected as my old unit was 900 cfm but had more turns in the ductwork. This is the 27 inch deep model, which matches the depth of the CC. I did not opt for a wider than cooktop version only because I prefer the matched look, wanted to maximize my cabinet space, and functionally, I cook the smoky stuff in the middle anyway....See MoreHigh End Appliances Pricing
Comments (36)Very late to the party on this one, but... I have a kitchen full of Miele products (induction stove, oven, steam oven and dishwasher)...all great except the induction stove (KM5773). Since installation we have had the issue of the stove shutting off during operation. At first it happened only occasionally (every month or so) and was of course inconvenient when cooking dinner. However, the frequency of this issue has increased dramatically; happening every few days a few months back and now happening every. "Resetting the touch controls" as outlined on page 18 of the User Guide usually worked (~70%) with a trip to the basement to flip the breaker usually working the rest of the time, so this was more of a nuisance than anything. And my general thoughts at the time were that it's embarrassing for Miele to have designed such a high end stove top that costs $3000 be prone to a ridiculous DESIGN AND ENGINEERING FLAW. However, over the past several months we have had instances in which we could not even reset the stove...ruining meals, plans, experiences, etc. The capper was when my wife hired some chefs to come and cook for eight of us for a birthday celebration. A night half ruined when only some of the dishes were already finished. I'm appalled by the reliability of this unit. From the posts online, I'm of the mind that this is NOT isolated to just me and that Miele should consider a product recall...or at least a solution. I'm at wit's end with more ruinous experiences when I should be enjoying the not inexpensive equipment. Note -- Miele has a website with very positive reviews of their products...all suspiciously submitted on either September 5th or 6th of 2012. I've submitted the above review twice to no avail. You've been warned...caveat emptor...See MoreI am so OVER the high end appliances.....
Comments (107)Sure, you can have great food and clean dishes from a cheap kitchen. Absolutely! My built-in fridge needs replacing after 20+ years because I can’t find parts for it anymore. You know what’s breaking? The gasket. Searched high and low and the gasket is extinct. The new fridges that would fit in the counter depth x 30” spot are all built-in or way too small. I can either redo the entire kitchen or spring for something that fits in the allotted space. I did look at everything. Many built-ins certainly are built for giants. Ridiculously tall. But I opened a SubZero Classic and simply fell in love. Sometimes it just comes down to that. Not in debt, not going into debt, it’s just a personal choice. And I have to wait a year to get it— the backlog is that long. And it better last 20 years! I will fix it so it does. Meanwhile I have duct tape and my daughter’s dorm refrigerator as a backup 😂...See MoreIncreased price for high end appliances
Comments (50)Posted by trevorlawson (My Page) on Fri, Dec 5, 14 at 19:01 Its true manufactures are not allowed to force a retailer to sell at a set price. But what they can do if a retailer is caught underselling is stop selling to them.... Most appliance manufactures do increase the prices once per year, beginning of the year is the choice of most. Normally the average price increase is 3%-8%. re: there are a few things that can happen when a dealer is selling under UMRP for a period of time. If the product has a volume rebate ( a kickback the dealer gets at the end of the year for being loyal to one brand ) they can with hold the rebate which costs the dealer money at the end of the year if they see occurrences of selling under UMRP. The second penalty is that some high end appliance distributors will stop selling to the dealer who continually sells under UMRP. . The third penalty is that they can declare them an unauthorized dealer and the remainder of there stock will not be covered under the manufacturers warranty when sold. Every manufacturer in the industry handles this differently and there tolerances vary. When the product has a running change ( meaning the features change without changing the model number then the dealer has a right to sell it off at a discounted price. They may or may not disclose to the customer that they are selling last years design. Some differences can be a subtle as lighting changes from halogen to LED> Typically the manufacturers impose price increases as cost of material goes up ( such as stainless steel ) and these increases are handed down usually once a year....See MoreNadya
