most likely French Marigolds, Tagetes patula. there are a gazillion different cultivars, in general they can be sown directly and selfseed to a degree. bye, Lin

Carol, I purchased a 'bunch' of Walmart Garden Pink last year, and when the first one that bloomed was a Dark Red, I 'assumed' that that it was the bunch of red ones that I purchased. Not so.... The label in the 5 gallon pot said, "WM Garden Pink". None of them were pink. There were a few different reds and a couple that were more orange. It's no telling what the ID of them are. They could very well be seedlings that were never named, thus sold as 'Garden Amaryllis'. Knowing sweet Maria in VA, she would have posted blooms if the seedlings had produced them. Did some of your WM Garden amaryllis not bloom last year? None of my white ones did. This year, I tried to select the ones that had buds, hoping to see what they look like this year, not next year, so that I can group them in my gardens according to color.

Sensitive fern won't have these rhizomes... And I've never seen it grown as a house plant (I am assuming ellym has a house plant fern?). I'd say it's Microsorum pustulatum, aka Kangaroo Fern. I usually see them with rhizomes growing over the sides of the pot. I imagine it would be hard to keep them all inside. It's probably similar in this regard to all the rabbit's foot ferns, grown in pots all covered in rhizomes.
