Older Cars and Show Cars
Comments (17)When you speak of Camaros, the 69 is usually the one folks really go for. One reason is there were more 69's made than any other year. They were in production for a year and a half while GM tooled up for the 70 and the huge body style change from 69 to 70. The 1970 is technically the 70.5 but most no one ever refers to it as such any more. There is also the mild difference in taste mentioned in the above post. The 69 is a little longer, flatter looking, than the 67 and 68 was. Someone mentioned trying to find a car from the SW as well to keep the rust issue down. That is great advice also. My 67 came from Georgia and I have a pretty decent body on mine, the body was my biggest concern. If you are looking for a driver and not a numbers matching car, then you can always pick up a crate engine and drop in. All F Bodies (Camaros and Firebirds) have some common rust areas that are more susceptiable to rust. Look carefully at the area around the back glass, lower front quarter pannels and lower portion of the rear quarter pannels. You will most likely find some metal repair, bondo or rust in those places. As for handling and stopping, many are converting Corvette disc brake systems now to put on their 1st generation F Body cars. There are also a ton of suspension upgrades you can do to make the car drive and handle much more like a modern car. On my 67 Camaro, I'm most likely going to do a brake upgrade in the future, but I personally like the raw, performance feel of the original type of suspension and handling. I can go on for hours on this subject, they others are giving good advice on this as well. Bottom line, do your home work, and make sure to fatten up your bank account because this isn't a cheap hobby by any means. It does help to find a club as well. You can get lots of advice, some education on repairs and the cars as well. Plus having a couple of buddys help with the heavy work involved is something invaluable! I'm President of a NC/SC car club that is GM only. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions. Comments (57)I like regional expressions/word usage even if they are gramatically incorrect. I think they make language interesting. I remember one of my neighbors in Virginia Beach, where we have a beach house, telling me his wife had to go to Tennessee and that he had told her he would carry her there if she wanted. I couldn't figure out what in the world he meant. Carry her there? I later figured out is a southern way of saying he would drive her there. I also think it's funny hearing the new words that my kids and their friends pick up - like "danke" ??? Meaning very cool....See MoreIs this price as ridiculous as I think it is, or am I out
Comments (26)Thanks jm, I'm actually kind of glad they are sooooo overpriced. If they were $300 I might have (ridiculously) talked myself into them. But now I will make them for less than $100 and probably be happier with them anyways. I will look at the online feather pillow forms. I saw a really nice feather pillow for a bed that looks like it would be just the right size to split in 2 and make 2 kidney pillows ($20), and I have several fabrics bookmarked at fabricguru's. Even if I have to order a couple of samples I'm still going to be way ahead in terms of price. Cattnap and johnatemp, thanks for the suggestion to get an upholsterer to do the job. I may resort to that even though I know I can do them myself. I'm doing the slipcover for the sofa myself and I'm thinking when I'm done that, i'm going to be so sick of sewing... And $40,000 for a loveseat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!! What are these people thinking? Mind you, I have a girlfriend who is also looking for chairs for her living room and she thinks anything over $400 for a chair is widely extravagent. If she knew I was spending over $1000 on a chair, she would probably have the same reaction as you did to your friend :-)...See MoreMy Daughter Was In A Car Accident Today...
Comments (19)I'm sorry to hear that--it's devastating for them when they have that car they love and it gets banged up. Please have her be very aware of her health for the next few weeks. When DD was in an accident some years back, she went to the hospital, was checked out and X-rayed, was fine that night. But within 2 weeks, she developed a back problem that's going to give her pain and problems the rest of her life. My second suggestion is to do what we did. Turn the whole thing over to your attorney. Don't talk to your insurance (other than to alert them that there WAS an accident), don't negociate with the other fellow's insurance, don't deal with the medical bills--just let your lawyer do all that. If your lawyer is any good at all, your daughter will come out way ahead, even after his fee--I know my dd did quite well (although, no amount of money can ever compensate one for a lifetime--well, 50-70 years--of pain). But the last headache your daughter needs right now, is having to deal with insurance companies--encourage her to let a professional handle it for her....See Moregsciencechick
