polished vs honed and light vs dark granite/quartzite
Comments (38)I have honed dark granite right now and it stains like crazy esp anything remotely oily. Tried everything to seal it and nothing worked. It was in the house when we bought it and we are now remodeling the kitchen and it it will be gone. Replacing with polished Sea Pearl quartzite if the quote is right (fingers crossed). It's been a process because this kitchen has extremely high end (previous owner installed) cabinets with a high gloss finish in teal blue - gorgeous but challenging and way to expensive to replace. Very sleek and modern. Thanks to the oven forum we chose the Miele Master Chef oven (wanted that rotisserie) and warming drawer and after reading on the Refrigerator Forum we chose the Thermador Freedom Towers for the fridge and freezer. LOL we inquired about getting panels for them to match the cabinets and yikes, the cost was more than the appliances cost. So stainless fronts it is. Everyone here is so helpful - certainly appreciate this site and the forums....See MoreGranite top installed.. disappointed
Comments (22)First of all I am sorry this happened to you...it's such a great moment when your countertops go in and you step back and think WOW..all this money I just spent and I'm so happy. NOT! I has a similar experience last year with my quartz countertop installation and received a huge amt of help from another fabricator on this site. The installer did subpar seam work and also installed a defective piece of quartz material and my salesman could have cared less. ..in fact, they both said the same thing "It's a shadow on the deck of the countertop and you'll get used to it" The job was paid in full with the exception of $500 (silly me..I learned a lesson). After 6 months of them ignoring me, sending my account to collections and then not following through, I ended up negotiating paying them $250. I also wrote to my local BBB who ended up being a huge help to me. I basically didn't want anyone else to have to go through this with the arrogant company I dealt with which is why I am happy this complaint is on the internet for the whole world to see. Your fabricator did not advise you properly and shame on him! What shoddy customer service. Do NOT let him get away with this. Only settle for the look you think is right. I've always said "go with your gut" and if you aren't happy now why on earth are you going to get used to it next week, next month, next year? If this doesn't get resolved, it will drive you crazy looking at this for the coming years. Stop payment, call your CC company, tell this owner you will be contacting the BBBureau. Can you tell I am having a PTSD moment reliving what I went through? LOL....See MoreFound My Granite Slab What do you Think??
Comments (132)You changed the photo at 10:13 and that changed everything that follows. Be careful or you and we aren't going to be able to keep things straight. My favorite is still the one Mayflowers posted because it has such a lovely color. The green will compliment the red in the cabinets while accentuating the softer tones in your floor. It has movement without being busy or loud. Stunning. The soapstone and costa esmeralda would do well too, but they are darker and you have clearly not entertained that idea. I'm going to try to ignore this thread now. I've said all I can say. Thank you kksmama for finding something to remember in it. It isn't original. I think any good designer, the pros and the experienced amateurs here, will all tell you the same thing. I'm sure I've read it all here before. And now I'm going to vent a little and try not to lose the playing nice factor altogether. My frustration here is that I don't feel the OP is paying attention. Maybe they just don't get it and I can't explain it any better. The suggestion to get a pro involved and looking at these in person has been made more than once. I think its time to heed that advise. It takes time and effort for us to open up multiple screens and look at them and then comment on them thoughtfully. When the comments appear to be ignored, or at least not beneficial, and followed only by another set of photos that show we aren't making any progress in the process, I have to stop. I suspect others already have. Good luck....See MoreReveal, Kksmama gets her own sink and hood!
Comments (59)Deedles, that drawer has a drawer box of 8", which with side mounted glides means the inside of the drawer has a clearance of 9 3/4" (the front, which is only a matter of aesthetics and not function, is 11 1/2"). The lower drawers have the same 8" box, 12 1/2" front, but a useful interior height/depth/clearance of 11" - which is just barely enough for the large pyrex lasagna pan which says it is 10.5 x 14 (but that is the bottom and the top is 11" wide). Sorry for all the level of detail, I hope it makes sense and is useful. I think I got lucky with some of this, and would encourage others to be very specific with their cabinet makers about exactly what they are specifying and why. A2gemini, the paint is a copy of EK Adobe. For me, it is just the right warm/cool balance (I lean more towards cool)....See Morepippiep
