Oh you poor darling! How do you control yourself? I would be a screaming banshee if i had done all that work to have it all dragged out to cook in the yard. You must be a saint or something! LOL :-)---Im glad you like the sock idea. I have two dogs and both get the sock method. My oldest is a three year old Shepard mix we adopted from a shelter, her name is Mary. She will practically bring the sock to me and she always wants to go first because they get many many goodies afterward. Bribes always work :-)----Then Tigger is our little black and white boy mini schnauzer and he used to eat us up when we first got him. He just turned one in may. He did not trust us at first and if we touched him or tried to hold him he would bite us! Thank God thats over with and he is our little Velcro dogie now. Always hanging on somebody wanting to be petted. He still gets upset about getting his nails clipped but he wants the treats soooooo bad, so he is much nicer and no biting anymore just growling but thank goodness for the sock. I use an old stretched out one that the elastic is soft so as not to hurt our babies just paralyze them. HaHa Then with Mary i drape a small blankie or towel over her legs so as not to kick my eyes out because i trim them on their backs. It takes about five minutes per dog and then we have a big treat party about three treats per dog and everybody gets a new rawhide chewy afterward to go take their anxiety out on. And i keep my skin and eyes intact :) The only problem i have with Tigger now is when we go out for a potty break he tries to catch baby birds and he bite a baby robin this year and killed it. I cried. I had no idea the little bird was even in there but he knew right away and just grabbed it and shook it. It was over in an instant. I put a muzzle on him now when we go out because i dont want that to happen again. Cindeaa, That is a very complex question. It has to do with the basic chromosome stucture of the plant. If you do a google search on 'daylily diploid tetraploid', you will find lots of answers as to what is the difference. It has to do with the compatability of plants in hybridizing. Most of of the hybridized hippeastrum are tetraploid. That is what makes them bigger and more robust. Species are typically diploid and often not able to set seed when selfing with its own pollen. There is very little documentation on which varieties are diploid and which are tets, and that makes it frustrating when trying to cross pollinate. Simply put, the pollen of the larger flowered with the larger flowered will normally produce seed. My biggest complaint is that there is so little information available on hipps. Daylilies are another story. It is easy to find info as to what their 'ploidy' is when they are a known variety. It's a learning process, and it can be quite fun! However, there is this thing about triploids which are somewhere in between and they tend to be sterile. I suppose that Appleblossom is one of those, although it seems that Appleblossom pollen works on some tetraploids. It's a whole different world and worth exploring if you are trying to produce seeds from the beauties that you have been collecting.

I have had good results with cuttings from lemon, about 2 months ago i cut back branches on one of my trees, took all the bits and tryed to root them, 90+% of the lemon cuttings are growing, i have also tried mandarin and calamondin since, none rooted I used a small plastic frame they sell as a greenhouse..., shelves with a plastic bag over it in reality, it was in the house in a bay window for the sun to heat the air, a piece of tissue paper to shield the sun from the plants The cuttings were all about a foot tall, i just cut the bottom off each just below a leaf node, left all the leaves on,i dabbed rooting gel on the end and pushed it into a pot of perlite, watered it, then left it in the greenhouse (tent shelf) it was at 25 deg C for about a month , i sprayed the leaves everyday to keep them wet, after a month i looked and they had rooted 2 inch around and new growth was starting Out of 30 about 28 rooted from the lemon, none from the mandarin or calamondin The cuttings i used were fairly new growth, it was green color but hard, not brand new soft growth

I had a sudden oven failure in my older 30" RNB, and happened to see the obvious cause. I don't have a wiring diagram, but the circuit is so simple that it's not really necessary. The line from the plug goes along the side of the range to the control knobs, spark unit and igniters. It delivers 120v to the thermostat. When the oven or broiler is switched on, the thermostat passes that 120V back to the thermovalve, which in turn sends it down to the appropriate oven or broiler igniter, which in turn connects directly to the neutral wire from the plug. My range's problem was caused by a misrouting of the wires that bring power up to the oven igniter. Instead of having been passed through the big hole that's obviously provided for them at the front of the range, they were pinched between the side panel and frame of the range, squeezing them very tightly. Finally the insulation degraded enough to cause a short, with a moment of sparking that made the location of the problem obvious. The short damaged the internal circuitry in the thermovalve, which is not protected by a fuse, so the thermovalve is shot. It only hurt the oven-side circuitry; the broiler, which is handled by the same valve, is fine. It's conceivable that such a short would knock out the thermostat, but in my case it didn't. I will have to replace the thermovalve and the wires going to the igniter, rerouting them to avoid a repeat performance.
