Endless summer question.
Comments (25)I have three ES in different growing conditions and am not happy with any of them. I planted them last year and will wait to see if things change next year. If they don't get bigger or better I will have to move them in the perennial garden where other plants can balance out the shortcomings, instead of using them as speciman plantings or focal points. But this is how they are growing so far. West Side of house: this one was a large plant going into winter last year about 2'by 2.5' It had many blue blooms and wilted everyday and was watered daily. Came back this year with 1 stem and one huge white mophead that has been on the plant for over a month. I did not water daily this season because I thought I may have rotted it. Late morning to early afternoon sun: 2 plants were planted late last year and have had 1 nice long lasting bloom flush. However, they have not grown much more than orginal height from last year. Northern exposure with very late afternoon sun: this plant had maybe 2" of roots when taken out of the pot. I almost returned it. It is the tallest and widest one I have with huge huge leaves, but has had only one bloom early on. In my experince so far ES seems very tempermental and sensitive when it comes to sun exposure. So sensitive that 1 to 2 hours more or less sun exposure can change the whole plant. I think I will stick to roses for specimen and focal point plantings....See MoreThat was quick! Rough Linen here
Comments (122)Suzie, I replied on the other thread. I think you will find that the linen does soften beautifully but you might like to press them at least the first couple fo times you use them. The pillowcases are quick to press and I remember reading something in another context about an initial pressing helping set the way the fibers will lay. Maybe it will help the fibers in your pilowcases lay smoother. But they will soften up....See MoreRough Linen Indigo
Comments (9)Huge linen fan here! I belong to a hobby medieval recreation group for which I need "period" clothes, or, as we call it, "garb." The choices are pretty much linen, wool, and silk. I have several linen under-dresses and overdresses. This is CA, so I often just wear the overdress in a non-period short sleeved version. I have one wool Viking apron dress, which I love, but it's awfully warm. The point is, I wear those linen items on multi-day camping trips where between the archery and the cooking/cleaning nothing stays clean for long. When I get home I drop them in the wash along with the jeans or whatever and they come out just fine. I like linen so much, I snatched up 3 pair of wide leg linen pants on sale at Macy's. They go in the general wash too. In my washer & dryer, the pants tend to be pretty wrinkly, but in my daughter's newer machines there's not a wrinkle to speak of. Matter of fact, I have a pair on as we speak. My costume dresses I make myself with linen I buy from Fabric-store.com. Linen ravels like mad, so all the seams need to be overcast or something that serves the same purpose. Medieval dresses have multiple gores, so that's always a challenge! These pinafores look fabulous and I appreciate the work that goes into making them....See MoreRough Linen Fans -
Comments (10)I just received the email. Agree with her that the blackish buttons were the right choice for the indigo. Which of the two depends on your overall style. The natural is classic and the indigo could go sophisticated or very casual - almost denim-like - depending on how it's accessorized. Can you visualize each in your room? Would you consider mixing, as she suggested? Have fun choosing;) I don't think you can go wrong with either....See Morecyn427 (z. 7, N. VA)
