Sorry, funkyart, I missed the earlier post about your plans to remodel the kitchen. I understand now why building a banquet does not make sense. I think it's a gorgeous table. Sounds like you would design your remodel around the table? I'm sure that it will be exquisite incorporated into the new space you design. Will the kitchen be open to the living area? Do you have a rough floorplan you could share? I don't think the table is too "nice" for daily use (and I'm sure it's built to withstand it), but if it were me, I wouldn't want to make that kind of investment in furniture until I had the right space to really showcase its beauty. And as someone in the midst of a never-ending kitchen/family room remodel of a 60s ranch, I know first hand how drastically plans can change due to unanticipated plans. I purchased some furniture prior to the remodel that I thought for sure would be perfect only to have some shifts in the style direction of the remodel. I wish I had waited!

Other than the fact that it is a bit stiff, is there anything particularly Wrong with it for a 44 year old room? If so, what changes would you make? It's too cluttered, fussy and rigid. It has a good traffic flow. The mirror would go, not because it's bad, but those warped reflections make me nauseous (it's an optic thing). A flat mirror with good glass clarity in that spot would be fine. Assuming it has colors I liked and comfortable seating, I would clean off the tables, rip out the carpet and use a nice oriental rug on polished hardwood. The lambrequin might go or be recovered with something less formal. Lamps are OK, would replace scalloped shades for less formal linen ones. Because the colonial era was a big trading era, I would invent a family member who "was in shipping" and sent back interesting things. I would hang more paintings, fewer non-paintings. Mirror on the right would go, hang a nice landscape instead.

But she can raise an objection (complain is not the right word in this situation, in my opinion) if she ordered ivory but received white. :) Exactly how would you qualify -and prove- that what she got isn't "ivory" or "cream"? What you think/feel is "white" probably isn't "white" enough for me and I'd call it off-white, cream or maybe even ivory. And neither one of us would be right - or wrong. Unless we're dealing with hue/value/chroma color notations that have been ascertained according to proper standards, you can't argue color. The only way to argue color is by measuring the colors and comparing the color data values that result from the measurements. And it helps to have a physical reference, a color atlas of measured swatches to use as the benchmark. This thread does a great job outlining a huge and serious problem ALL online vendors are dealing with. I haven't found a good resource to cite but what I have gathered says about 22% of all online purchase returns are due to "color not as expected". So, that's kind of where everyone is at. If you don't like the color, then send it back. But not all online retailers make that easy. In many cases, the trouble and cost of returning the item is all on the consumer. As a result, many end up keeping the item despite the fact it wasn't the color they wanted. IME, I'd say gray sofas are 'up there' in terms of being the #1 surprising item. People think they're ordering a "neutral" warm gray sofa and what they actually get ends up having a giant punch in the eyeballs of discernible hue.

Thank you. Sorry if my question was a little ambiguous. I have indeed checked out Amazon, overstock, wayfair, walmart etc.. They tend to sell the 2XHome version which is made in China. Rove concept looks to be a good middle ground between the chinese rubberwood version and a Carl Hansen official replica. There also seems to be a version available from Laura Davidson Direct (never heard of them) which is made out of ash wood with a walnut stain. Does anybody have any experience with any of these? I just thought I would post here and see if anybody had personal experience buying any of these chairs and were satisfied with them. I'm looking for nice durable chairs but can't quite afford the high-end Carl Hansen replicas as these cost thousands of dollars per chair.
