Comments (14)Well my experience with this plant is much different from other posters. Here, now is the time of year when established SJ's drop some old leaves and can look like your pictures. I often wonder if it is a reaction to a spell of Santa Ana winds, which we had a few weeks ago or the nights cooling off after being fairly warm all summer. Check--is the soil really dry? A good soaking or two now with the hose would not hurt. Mine do this leaf drop thing every year if I forget to fertilize and skimp on the water. Next year, give them some slow release fertilizer right after bloom, (when they start pushing new growth) and they should not look so bad come this time next year. That is my experience with my multiple Star Jasmine plants of many years growth. Others of course may know different....See MoreStar Jasmine in Shade?
Comments (3)Mine is planted in an 8 inch by 8 inch square wedged between a fence, garage, and concrete path, basically an in ground container. When I first put it in, it didn't get any direct light. It took a year to get up over the fence. This year, the third, I had to prune heavily as it was engulfing the garage. It has always flowered nicely but not as fragrantly as I had hoped. My issue is that it went under and through the fence (basically knocking the old thing down). And into the garage. And into the garage roof. And got massive, despite no watering or feeding, or, you know, dirt. Maybe it would be more polite for you? I guess worse case it would take care of the fence for you. ;) I have a variegated one in the front yard with much better conditions that hasn't done nearly as well, go figure....See MoreSomething growing on star jasmine
Comments (2)Are you sure it's not just the rootlets by which Trachelospermum sticks to surfaces? They look like parallel lines of little brown hairs running along the stems. They start off stuck together and if they touch a suitable surface they divide up into clinging root-like stickers. Your description would seem to fit....See Moremartinca_gw sunset zone 24
