Badly cracked granite around copper sink
Comments (9)It's actually a good thing that it's cracked so throughly. I'll bet it's not rodded and that's good news too. I'd take the top apart, decontaminate the cracks, and re-adhere them after dropping the sink. Your repairperson should have the latest incantation of Gorilla Grips which will clamp a skinny sink rail, but he may be able to keep the sections on plane with straightedges. You're probably always going to be able to see where the cracks were, but the repairs will be inconspicuous, sanitary, and permanent if the sink is strapped back in place. Between five hundred and a thousand dollars if the cabinets haven't shifted the tops out of plane which seems likely. Here is cutting in an apron drop-in. You'll have to have that sink if your rear rail isn't 5" wide or so. Less than 2K including sink and plumbing. If you have the 5", you can have this sink. If you don't have the 5" and really want the second linked sink, a fabricator can build it out of the front and back rails. Here I'm using 4" backsplash, but the theory is the same: Forget about under 2K though. That's gonna cost ya....See MoreNew granite countertop crack. need suggestion....
Comments (16)Thanks All! We really appreciate the input. We've never been in a position to install a natural surface and, unfortunately, the information we keep receiving is so contradictory it's maddening. Here (at houzz) no one has investment in our situation, so I'm weighing the input with more weight than the local input. The general consensus on here seems to point to "don't worry about it. Have them seal it (CA-SuperGlue) and move on". That is very relieving to hear, so thank you. As stated, this is a whole new world to us and we never imagined it to be so....daunting? :-) That said, the installer/fabricator is going to be here this afternoon. I am hoping they do not try to spread flagrant BS and are honest with us. @Javiwa - Thank you for that link, it was very informative. Unfortunately, I wasn't very happy with the part that discussed FB. Had we known about the Marble properties, we would never have selected it for kitchen countertops. All pre-sales talk and labeling referred to this as Granite and/or Quartzite. The final invoice calls it Marble. So I guess we treat it as Marble from here on out to stay on the safe side. @chicagopa - Can you feel your crack/fissure with your fingernail on the face of the cutout? @Featherbee - Yes, we can feel it with a fingernail on the cutout surface. We can NOT feel it on the counter surface....See MoreHow to hide cracks in granite?
