Either Uber or Taxis. Taxis are plentiful in the city but finding a taxi where 4 adults can fit comfortably is not always possible. Prices are fairly comparable between Uber and Taxis. I was just in the city for the holidays and used a combination of taxis, uber, subway and walking. All the places you plan to visit are huge tourist areas with lots of taxi traffic.

We lived in SF and vastly prefer uber over taxis. In our old neighborhood taxis did not cruise by and never showed when we called dispatch (multiple experiences of calling dispatch ahead of time, taxi not showing, calling to see where taxi was, taxi still not showing, more than once we ended up walking a mile or more to a nearby neighborhood where taxis cruised by to catch one). But uber showed up every single time. And the uber cars I have been in have never smelled like smoke, etc, where nearly every taxi I have been in has. Also the price is set in advance with uber so you know what your credit card will be charged and no tipping.

I love using Über or Lyft when I'm in an area where they operate. It's so convenient and I like not having to hand over cash to the driver. Plus you can usually get some new user discounts when you sign up. Have a friend refer you so that they can get the discounts too.

All NYC taxis accept Credit Cards and Apple Pay which was my preferred method for paying for things. I did not have problems with the conditions of the cabs in NYC.

But with Über and Lyft you don't even need to fiddle around with paying the driver. You just get out of the car at your destination, and the driver is automatically paid through the app. Then you can leave a tip on the app if you want.

Well, if you have facebook or have ever gone to a facebook page (in the US), you've already given them access to everything, so if this bothers you, stay away from facebook and twitter, too.

Should add that Houzz is nearly as bad (although they primarily track your browsing/online purchasing), which is what kept a lot of folks from making the jump from GW.

No, only if you use facebook on a phone or visit a facebook page. They have specifically said that they will not regard any do not track request from a browser. You go there, they got you. Now the ability to do this depends to some extent on the operating and version of it on your phone. Some versions of some operating systems are better sandbagged than others, but these days when people want to be able to let apps communicate with each other, none are that isolated anymore.

But yes, just as they have access to everything you do on a desktop computer, to the extent that they are able to do so, yep.

We use Uber and Lyft around Boston. I still sometimes take a cab if it's a hop in opportunity.

I have never had an issue getting a cab in NYC when needed at or near any of the places you've listed.. I'd be much more likely to hop a cab at the moment I was ready for it than to call uber. However, I wouldn't hesitate to use uber if I was going somewhere less frequented by cabs ... or in a city that doesn't have so many widely available cabs.

You might want to do a little research on that fb question. If you have the fb app on your phone it likely does. Try a Google search for does Facebook app have access to contacts list. Large population of people who have found it so. In some cases yes.

Thank you all! All things considered we'love probably use cabs except after the opera to get back to the hotel. I've always found securing a cab at that venue at night requires one person willing to stand out in the cold rain etc which is not pleasant in NY in Feb.
