Nicole, we have "hundreds" of those red-winged blackbirds just stripping all of the feeders. They are here twice a year for about 3 months each time. I love birds, but I am to the point of "not" loving these.

Jim, have you an identity for your bug? Looks a lot like the Kissing Bug whose bite can be deadly. They have recently been seen in more northern states than normally found. There are some bugs that look very similar to the Kissing Bug, but are harmless.

I believe it is a simple mantis. Most are green, this one must be older to change coloring like that.
