Already thinking about squash bugs. Eww.

Our "back" garden is three raised beds. In one bed, we planted tomatoes and peppers...and then peas. In another bed, zucchini and yellow squash. In the third, cucumbers and then peas.

I don't know much about crop rotation, but believe it's probably a good idea NOT to replant squash in the same area. We had a nice squash bug free run until July, but they found us finally. What would be good to plant in the cucumber/zucchini/cucumber area this year? Would tomatoes be okay? Some of the beds had peas, which if I remember correctly is a nitrogen fixer for soil. Actually, the peas are still in the bed half-dead.

And I forgot that I had stuck some garlic in one of the beds last October. Went out to inspect the beds today and there it was.

So...tomatoes and peppers? Squash bugs do not bother those at all (In case there's some hiding around)?

Then I thought about escorting the chickens down to that area of the property--let them scratch around and eat any bugs they might find as well as eat the clover that is coming up in the beds. They lose their minds over clover...and we have a lot of it.

Hi! It's good to be back. It's been a busy time and then our hillbilly internet was out for awhile after Christmas--during Christmas break when I had time to catch up!
