Comments (3)Mine's been in the ground a year, and its flowers are absolutely divine. Mine is really puny, though. It doesn't seem to want to put on much new growth. I don't know if I should give it better food, or just be a lot more patient, but I'm getting a little bit frustrated with its scrawniness -- especially now that someone else posted pictures of *their* second year Dr. Reynaud, and it was ginormous! Gosh, what a fragrance, though. And I love the color....See MorePlease comment about Deuil de Dr. Reynaud
Comments (10)mauvegirl, I no longer have either rose, the first due to gopher depradation and the second because I took it out. Deuil was a lovely and very fragrant rose for me, completely healthy, with long and lax canes and beautiful flowers which didn't like my heat. I think judging from its growth that it would do very well growing up an obelisk. It was a strong grower with a lot of leaf coverage in my warm and dry climate, with no disease. I think it may be a better rose than Commice; certainly Olga thinks so and her judgment is excellent. I remember seeing a picture on the forum of Deuil rambling over a fence, so it seems quite vigorous. I don't think it's the same rose as Commice. Ingrid...See MoreDeuil de Dr. Reynaud
Comments (11)Joe, I used to grow both Mme de Sevigne and DdDR. I gave my MdS away because it was very BS prone for me, no comparison to DdDR. Both need spraying in my climate, but DdDR can be kept healthy with just every 3-4 weeks spray and MdS was spotted event with very dedicated spray programm. The flowers and repeat are very similar. Both are vigorous roses but DdDR is bigger. I hope your rose makes it, if not, I can send you cuttings of my DdDR. Olga...See MoreMIP, MECalvat and Deuil Du Dr. Reynaud
Comments (20)Katya, I garden in a pretty terrible location with very cramped space (most roses in pots way too small for them), and with very limited sun exposure, next to no heat, and tremendous black spot pressure. I also fell in love with MIP and managed to root two cuttings nearly 2 years ago. So I have two very small plants (because they are in 1-gallon pots still!) BUT they are as healthy as my other roses and the foliage is really very good. I've had only a few blooms thus far but they are indeed simply spectacular. And the fragrance is as everyone says. I had been warned the MIP was a mess in many places, including other coastal areas of California (I'm in a very foggy part of foggy San Francisco). But conditions are different all over. So you should certainly try MIP. Editing to note that these plants looked pretty bad for approximately the first year, which seems to be the case for lots of my babies. As they get a bit older/bigger, they are more resistant to the blackspot. They have been very clean for @ 6-8 months now. And yes, all, I AM going to up-pot those two poor ladies (and others) very soon! Also, I'd recommend you look into gorgeous Maggie -- and old found Bourbon rose. She is a stunning rose of a very special color and (often) strong delicious fragrance. About HelpMeFind Roses website -- you can use HFM without signing up or joining. You get access to more parts of the site if you do join -- but you have at your fingertips and extraordinary resource that I'm sure you will love. Go in there and start looking around. But warning -- I routinely get lost on HMF for hours. Here are HMF links to MIP and to Maggie. Click through the various tabs and be sure to click back so you can see the earlier photos and comments in those areas. The ones that look best to me are the photos from Jay-Jay and Meetza. The color is often described as "madder rose" -- it is not at all red nor is it a hot pink or fuschia color, which lots of the photos seem to show. Sheba...See Morecarriehelene
